Thread: how much protien per day (249 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by SweetEmotion (1139 posts) at 08:58 AM:
Probably depends on what your goals are. I have read just yesterday that to reach your goal weight to eat one gram of protein for each pound of your goal weight. If you want to weigh 125 then have 125 grams protein. Lori

What about tuna and an apple as a meal. A can of tuna has 32 grams of protein. I eat tuna and apple for a meal every day. Stef :-)

Totally up to you. If you're trying to measure muscle growth in your bicep, then by all means measure them while flexed. I usually measure at rest because I'm a girl and I can be truthful and say I want to see if I've lost some of the fat surrounding the muscles. So it's really what you prefer/are looking to measure.

Thread: Freaked about my heart rate (25 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (524 posts) at 07:47 PM: Freaked about my heart rate
I'm confused and a lot scared and I need y'all's help.  Last week, after an all-out sprint for one minute on the treadmill, I was doing active recovery and measured my heart rate on those hand grips.  The sprint was very hard, but I felt great - if a LOT winded and needing a couple of minutes to recover to the point of being able to speak again.  The monitor read 176.  That's 97% of my maximum heart rate.  And that was after I'd gone into active recovery.

Then I got to thinking - is it dangerous to work out that close to my MHR?  And by "maximum" does that mean the body can't handle anything higher than that?

Working at 90% doesn't really feel like a 9 or a 10 to me.  But is that enough for my cardio sessions, since that's considered "optimal conditioning?"

I'm not trying to search for an excuse to slack on my cardio.  What I'm trying to do is determine if I'm being stupid to work out so close to my MHR.

Body for Life Forum Message by Daaang Girl (46 posts) at 09:09 PM:
Hit your 10s! It's fine to have your heart rate up there for a short period of time. If you feel dizzy or have chest pain, back down a bit. If you're feeling OK with it, go for it! Push yourself and ignore the monitor. Just my opinion there.

I got my son a smaller, 20 gallon tank for his room as a suprise when he was gone for the summer. (OK, it was guilt becuase I forgot he had fish and that resulted in turning it into survival of the fittest. When I realized I was starving his fish, only one was left swimming. The other two were gone, surely long-digested by the remaining) But I digress... He picked out guppies and was all excited to have them swimming around in there... and then they started dying, one at a time, even the one that survived the great famine of 2005. What a great suprise from mom, huh? He'll be in therapy for sure. So I cleaned out the tank and set it up again but I'm afraid to get more fish. What are the most "hearty" fish I can get? I need some survivors...lol. I know, it's amazing my kids still fit into society.

Just curious what you guys season your chicken breasts with, I need to mix it up a bit, I'm getting bored with the same old thing. Thanks!!

Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (1095 posts) at 12:52 PM:
I love using this seasoning by Goya called Adobo , I just put that on it while grilling it. For some reason I have not become tired of it. Teriyaki is a great marinade. I like topping my G-C-Breat with 1/2 of a mushed up avacado mmmm and also with a squeeze of lime and some salsa over it as well served on a bed of brown rice cooked in chicken broth and other seasonings such as cilantro or sofrito also made by Goya.

Body for Life Forum Message by Jennifer A (350 posts) at 12:58 PM:
Just last week I tried marinating the chicken breasts in plain no fat yogurt and minced garlic and lemon. It was really good! Other times I sprinkle caynne and paprika before roasting in the oven (no yogurt marinade on this) . Or Chipotle powder. Or S&P, garlic powder and onion powder (thats pretty standard isn't it). I have Old World Seasonings in Red Rock Fajita and Tequila Lime. I also marinate with a bit of oil, white wine vinegar, garlic, rosemary, oregano. Don't forget all the varieties of Mrs. Dash - no salt in those. Last week was my experiment using the yogurt instead of oil and it was successfull - highly recommend that.

Body for Life Forum Message by Can'tStopMe (497 posts) at 01:02 PM:
I use seasoning packets by McCormick, Santa Fe, Mesquite, Chipolte, etc. I usually marinate 6-8 pounds at a time and the family just feeds off it until they are sick of it or threatening suicide.

McCormick Montreal Chicken seasoning--you can sprinkle it on or you can mix it up for a marinade. Mmmm...

I bought at Sam's Club a big tub of "Rosemary/Garlic" seasoning... I use it on Chicken, Fish (especially good on Salmon), and grilled vegetables... I grilled everything on my Goerge Forman Grill. I don't grill "outdoor" much. :)

Thread: is someone willing to pick over my meal plan for the week? (74 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Daaang Girl (46 posts) at 01:03 PM: is someone willing to pick over my meal plan for the week?
Here it iss: Monday: golden pancakes (EFL), cottage cheese/fruit, portion EFL meatloaf w/ slice WW bread, baked protein bar (these are the bars Carole posted on her blog, NOT store bought bars), chicken enchiladas (EFL), protein pudding. Tuesday: protein shake, hard boiled egg & 2 whites w/ tangerine, chicken enchiladas, baked protein bar, sesame beef stirfry (EFL), protein pudding. Wednesday: golden pancakes, apple & 2 LF string cheese, EFL meatloaf w/ bread, baked protein bar, sesame beef stirfry, protein pudding. Thursday: oatmeal w/protein powder, baked protein bar, chicken enchiladas, cottage cheese/fruit, sasame beef stirfry, protein pudding Friday: golden pancakes, baked protein bar, ranch chicken salad, cottage cheese/yogurt, ranch chicken salad (EFL), protein pudding Saturday: EFL breakfast sammich (the one w/turkey bacon and WW english muffin), protein shake, ranch chicken salad, cottage cheese/yogurt, chicken enchiladas, protein pudding. SO whatcha think? Lemmie have it before I attack the kitchen in a fury of cooking and container-ing :)

Body for Life Forum Message by Can'tStopMe (497 posts) at 01:53 PM:
When I did challenge 1, I was soo excited to have recieved my EFL cookbook in week 4. I spent two weeks enjoying life, eating the pancakes and enchillads, the soups etc. I used the EFL recipes for 2 or 3 of my meals a day. I did this until sometime in week 6. Then I had my body fat analysis done and realized I moved not a drop despite my hard work. In fact, I was bloated. Too much sodium was one of the reasons. I was then told the EFL book was intended for the maintenance phase of your transformation. I now use the cookbook to break the monotony here and there. The pancakes, I usually make as a treat rather than a staple even though they are 'authorized'. Keep your meals clean and simple, grilled chicken, grains like brown rice or perhaps a sweet pototo. Fresh green beans and brocolli on hand to add to your meals is also a great filler. Good luck :)

Body for Life Forum Message by Nicabod (61 posts) at 01:56 PM:
You usually have to be careful with portion sizes on EFL--the portions are HUGE. I usually make one EFL recipe per day. All of the other meals are smaller.

Body for Life Forum Message by cfingram (1391 posts) at 02:04 PM:
Your meal plan looks delicious. I'm not sure how many carbs the meatloaf has, but, you may want to toss the bread and choose 1 portion green veges such as broccoli, green beans, asparagus or brussel sprouts. Also, instead of doing the ranch chicken, perhaps do Newmans Olive Oil/Vinegar dressing? (olive oil is very good for you). As for the fruit with the cottage cheese? What is your fruit of choice? I recommend Peaches, Apples, Strawberries, and Grapefruit (all low glycemic fruits)....however, it's good to diversify it, a variety of fruits in your diet is highly recommended...if you feel like eating a high glycemic fruit, have it before an intense workout or after (to replenish). Is your cottage cheese low fat? I'm assuming it is and not full blown 4% version :-) Switch up your protein pudding and eat your cottage cheese as your last meal. Cottage Cheese protein releases slowly into your body, therefore a great protein for a last meal before bed :-) . If you like Salmon :-), try to eat it 2 times a week, good fish oil. Do you know your daily calorie intake and ratios?

Body for Life Forum Message by cfingram (1391 posts) at 02:10 PM:
Ok, one important point that I do have to share is the fact that, the more natural your food is, the better for you! With this being said, what I mean is, I usually eat my veges RAW! *lol* Broccoli, carrots, green beans (they have to be super fresh), etc. It just takes longer for your body to process. Oh yeah, sodium can become a problem too, but you do it in your diet, especially when you work your a** off ...you do need it but not in abundance.

Same thing with the hair, I looked like a cat begging to be pet: Hairbrush stationary and my head moving. I wanted to cry if my bra strap fell off my shoulder for the pain of hiking it back up. Oh, there's the cursing every time you have to pee (which is oh...every 10 minutes or so?) because the very muscle that hurts the MOST is strategically placed right where the toilet seat hits ya. LBWO--when you have to use the handicapped stall so you can use the rails to lower yourself gently onto the seat so you don't just fall on it. UBWO--when your pits look like a jungle because you can't raise your arm to shave them, and even if you could, the hand holding the razor is so shaky, shaving would require a transfusion.

Body for Life Forum Message by biffler (230 posts) at 04:21 PM:
one little tidbit that might help anyone do deadlift for hams is to try an alternating grip on the barbell for a cleaner lift. an alternating grip is one hand over, one hand under. It will help decrease any rotation of the barbell as you lift so you can concentrate on your form. also, if using heavy weights, pile on smaller weights (as compared to a 45 plate) so you can get a full range of motion when coming down. You don't want to have to stop short on lowering the bar. If you have to use larger plates, try doing them standing on a block to get full ROM.

Maintain # of strides per minute around 170s and 180s, except at level 13 since I'm struggling by then. I usually just pedal as fast as I can, usually around the 150s stride per minute.

I have done cardio a little soon for awhile - I still do intervals and "10's" but I warm up for 5, do 1min intervals of levels 6 and 10 for 20 min. and then cool down for 5. For level 6, I do incline 9 and resistance 6 or 7 with 170's in strides for level 10, I do incline from 12-14, resistance about 10, and strides 200-210. I usually always hit about 450 cal and 3.7mi in 30 min. and never ever hold onto those handrails (if possible)!!!

Am I doing something wrong? How can I get thinner legs while still following this program? Do I increase cardio? Is it because of the food I have been eating? Please help.

Actually, TCstone...the label "organic" (unlike, say, natural, light, or carb-smart, sense or any other nonsense label) is heavily regulated by the USDA. In fact, anyone who labels a product organic that is not organic can be fined by the USDA. Here's what the USDA says organic actually means: Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations. Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones. Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides; fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge; bioengineering; or ionizing radiation. Before a product can be labeled "organic," a Government-approved certifier inspects the farm where the food is grown to make sure the farmer is following all the rules necessary to meet USDA organic standards. Companies that handle or process organic food before it gets to your local supermarket or restaurant must be certified, too. You can learn more at: http://www.ams.usda.gov/nop/Consumers/brochure.html

Body for Life Forum Message by hb9252 (6 posts) at 06:53 PM:
Hi there. I'm new but I just saw this and I felt so awful for you! You have a lot more self control than I do! I'm a single mother of two and I put every ounce of energy I have into raising my kids the best way I possibly can. When someone has the NERVE (and I don't care WHO it is) to tell me that I'm not being a good mother because I don't do things the way THEY do, I just LOSE it! The first BFL challenge I did, I had to wrestle with my feelings of being selfish - of spending an hour or so a day on what was good for ME instead of everyone else. The honest truth IS that you MUST take care of yourself FIRST, because you CAN'T be there for everyone else if you don't. By working out and eating right, you are being a great mother - you are setting a good example for your family and you are taking care of yourself so you can be a strong, healthy mother to that baby. I'd say your sister in law is an unhappy, jealous person and she feels the need to spread that around to everyone she can. Just ignore her, and feel THAT much better when you're happy and in great shape to take care of your son when he is a little older and into EVERYTHING and she's still unhappy and fat and lazy. PS: Flower, I gotta say, I like your style! ;)

Body for Life Forum Message by SuzyQ (12 posts) at 08:26 PM:
I agree with Flower. Also, remember when people are being bitchy it's really because they are unhappy about something going on in their life and it has nothing to do with you. You just happen to be the person she took it out on. Let go, don't let it fester!!!!!!!

Body for Life Forum Message by alvindsv (87 posts) at 09:00 PM:
Your not a bad mother. As a former Assistant District Attorney I had to conduct civil hearings to put children into protective custody because of neglectful parents. For example: Leaving a toddler, and 5 yo with the oldest child to babysit all day. Did I mention the oldest child was 8; or not providing a home with running water so the kids could take a bath, and the local school would secretly take the kids into the locker room so they could get a hot shower and parents of other kids would donate clean clothes. I could go on and on.... So take heart, you are in no way shape or form a bad mother. As for your sister-in-law, there seems for some strange reason to be this breed of people that just aren't happy unless they are bitchin about something. I swear. My mom, whom I love, is this way. I mean, it almost seems like she gets enjoyment out being mad about something all the time. Take care, and have a great BFL day tomorrow. Brian

Anyway....in order for me to do ANYTHING by way of shopping or Dr's, I HAD to drive 60 miles. If I was driving 60 miles to take a sick child to the Dr's office, you better believe I was going to run through the mall or into a store for something that I needed. And I had two children then....a 19 month old and a newborn. Those 60 miles trip weren't taken often, so when we did do them...we made them worth the 2 hours in the car. You aren't selfish. Try and let it go.

When I did past challenges I LIVED for the Free Day! It is a must for me. I am a police officer & currently working the midnight shift until April, so my day per challenge starts at midnight. So last night(this morn actually) Freeday kicked in. at about 1:00am, instead of my usually bar,I got the two cheesburger meal with an iced tea! On my way home I picked up a pork roll (taylor ham) & hashbrown sandwhich on a bagel, this afternoon I had one of my favorites: stouffers french bread pepperoni pizza with wavy lays on the side. Not sure what I will do for dinner, but when the clock strikes 12 again tonight, I'm on day 8!

Body for Life Forum Message by gbfan (350 posts) at 04:18 PM:
I've taken one absolute FREE day a week for the past year and two months. I have never had a "clean" free day, ever.  It has probably kept me from making some progress, but more than that, it has kept me content with this eating plan.

I LOVE free days.  I usually eat at the mexican restaurant with my family and have candy, or ice cream, or the things I don't go near through the week... like "Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies" with a big glass of COLD Milk!!! I have had plenty of food hangovers and they are nasty!!! But, I learn where to draw the line... and then on Monday... I'm right back on plan.

It is a great way to shock your body from the lower calories during the week. I probably eat 2000-3000 calories on any given free day!! It's part of the beauty of BFL!!

I planned on being really bad today, but so far it hasn't happened. So far my splurge consited of having Grape Nuts for breakfast instead of a Myoplex shake, and 3 hours later I had my shake, but used 1% milk instead of the usual water. I know...I'm wild! lol. But at some point today I am hoping to indulge a little. But as of right now, I'm just not craving anything. I suppose if it doesn't happen, I can save it and have a cheat meal later in the week.

I had a good start this week. woorkouts get an " A ". I am still stuggling with my nutrition.I have to give myself a " C ".Need to stop the self-sabotage........still I am down 2.5 lbs this week. I am looking forward to really nail my nutrition this week. I know very well what to do, all I need now is to shut of my mind, thoughts and feelings and just eat for fuel. I feel and my body feels so much better with clean fuel. It is a scary thought what I really can and will accomplish once I have my nutrition under control. I am ready to find out. I am confident about this week's nutrition. I am going to write all my meals out this afternoon on index cards (1 for each day), then carry the index card in my pocket all through the day and highlight the eaten meals. I am in my car all day long for work. Friday I am leaving for the BFL EXPO...woohoo Michelle

I didn't do my caliper measurements last week, but I'll do them today. I'm also going to borrow a digital camera tomorrow and get my pictures up, even though they'll be "end of week one" pictures instead of "before" pictures.

Body for Life Forum Message by FitnessGal4Life (20 posts) at 12:53 AM:
Here's a typical day in my life (Monday to Friday anyways!) I get ready for work, eat breakfast which varies between oatmeal, egg whites, cereal with milk blended with vanilla protein powder, or granola mixed with yogurt and frozen blueberries or whatever I fresh I have on hand At coffee when my co-workers are reaching for donuts, I have 1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese and fresh fruit. I usually chop up a grapefruit or an orange the night before and put it in a separate container and mix at work. Or, I'll have a myoplex lite bar or shake. Lunch is either portions of left overs from dinner the night before (I reheat or make them into something else). For example, I sliced up my leftover steak into strips and ate on top of mixed greens that I bought pre-packaged and tossed with 1 tbsp lite dressing. At 3pm I eat another snack like I had at 10. Usually I blend up a shake with my hand held mixer. (Don't worry, your co-workers will catch on and will eventually either quit asking what your making or join in!) After work, I hit the gym. On weight days, I lift and am usually in and out within an hour (getting changed, lifting, getting out). Then I pop by the grocery store and pick up something for dinner. I always plan in advance my meals for the day, but I keep it open at dinner. I ALWAYS follow the BFL guidelines when selecting though! My husband and I make dinner together and, if it's not too late or I feel I could use it, I may have a protein shake. (Not a meal replacement like myoplex, but just protein powder blended with milk, juice or water to cut down on the calories.) Then it's bed time! I pack our lunches and all my "meals" the night before because I hate trying to remember what to put together before I have my coffee! I take 2 scoops of betagen in the morning and 2 scoops at night. I take a multi-vitamin daily. I try to drink at least 2 to 3 litres of water each day at work, and another 1/2 litre or more at the gym. I get 8 or 9 hours of sleep a night. We don't have children (yet?? :) so this is what the routine is like now. It works for me, I get in my meals, workouts and sleep. I like a routine and it changes every once and awhile, but generally that's Mon-Fri. The best thing I have found is to prepare your next days meals the night before so it's ready to grab on the way out the door. If I don't do this, then I'm lost, skip meals or am tempted to cheat at the office. Keep going and keep up the great work!

I used to always be faced witht the same problem when I would go to my son's wrestling matches on Saturdays. They would usually be an all day event, held at one of the local high school gyms, and the concessions would sell only pizza, hotdogs...the regular junk. I always carried a cooler with me with bottled waters, a turkey sandwich or similar and anything else I would need for the day.

Teresa I was thinking more about you this morning and I remembered a tactic I used a few years ago. Practice this for a week and you'll be shocked. Each and every time you think about that 'one bite or taste of this won't hurt', stick that one bite into a ziplock bag. Every single solitary thing. It's gonna be the nastiest compilation of crap in a baggie that will make the following week much easier to tame.

Body for Life Forum Message by stepmorjo (84 posts) at 01:48 PM:
Whole foods are better because they make the body work harder to digest them, therefore, burning more calories. I also agree with J-Dub, try to add more whole grains, again, the body has to work harder to digest them. Great job so far! Stephanie

I am now on C3...(tracking a little differently this time) and am starting to see the scale move again. I didn't even see a big change in my measurements during C2..but something must have been happening..because I am now a size 10 (compared to my size 20-22 at the beginning of C1). I just wanted to tell you to hang in there...and watch the scale...just don't worship it! I never gained during C2..just passed around the same few pounds up and down. hope I helped ya! Jacque

Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (692 posts) at 02:04 PM:
I appreciate all the comments. I guess the whole eating thing is just a daily balance of right and wrong and finding the right mix. Putting all those little "tastes" in a baggie is a great idea. I have heard someone mention this before on this board. I may have to use it! I actually love BFL, even if I haven't seen a great transformation physically. I love that it combines eating right and exercising--the ol' mainstays for weight loss. The same things that have always tripped me up are continuing to do so--even if in a small way. I decided to look at my challenge by the week. Live day by day to avoid food "mess-ups"....but evaluate myself by the week and determine what I can change right away. Thanks everyone! Teresa

I am always looking out for extra copies of BFL books in Second-hand stores etc.. I also have loads of other BB books out on loan to people so when someone asks to borrow a certain one it takes me ages to locate it before I can pass it on. I also contacted EAS and they sent me loads of leaflets and posters that I have put up in the gym so I tend to hand out a lot of BFL leaflets and show people the website address. Sharon

I don't usually get to watch alot of TV with 3 active kids and a husband i'm not in the same spot for long, but yesterday I had a chance to watch most of Pay It Forward (with Helen Hunt). I was stuck to the television and had it on every TV so I could see most of it. The children were visiting their Granny and Papaw so I really got into it. It was about a little boy who had to do a project for school that would impact the world. He came up with Pay It Forward. This was the pyramid. He did nice things for 3 people, they did nice things for 3 people, they each did nice things for 3 people... The thought being that the good things would grow expontially and cover the world. Each time any of us have spent time giving someone who is lost with their health our encouragement and information on how to change their lives - WE PAY IT FORWARD. In this new year, take the time to look people in the eye and give them your time and energy. Let's really make our world healthier!! We can do this with more than BFL and we all know it just takes time and patience. Have a great new year trackers!!! Keep up the great work!!!

If anyone has been wondering where I've been I just thought I would keep you updated.  I just had a miscarriage a few days ago.  I slowed down a lot on BFL while I was pregnant, that is why I wasn't here but now I have to wait a little while until I'm allowed to workout again.  I'm sure I'll be back, I just don't know when.  In all honesty, I don't really feel like doing much of anything right now.  This would have been my first baby and I am completely wrecked.  I'll see you all when I do come back.  -Monica

I will ask when I can start working out again. I just keep thinking my baby died because I'm so fat. Its really not fair, how many women have children who don't want them, who do drugs, who smoke - I did everything right except lose weight before I got pregnant. Why is that fair?

Very sorry for your loss Monica; I've been through the same and understand how you feel and as well questioned it. I don't know how to put this gently but all the questioning and self blaming (yes I did the same) will never amount to anything there are no reasons and there are no answers. Its something you must move on from and heal. Another thing that always went through my head was well if there was something "wrong" to begin with it wouldn't have happened. Its not as simple as most people thing - getting pregnant By this I mean the "environment" that the baby has to live in has to be perfect, everything has to be precise otherwise you wouldn't have gotten pregnant in the first place. So no Monica there is absolutely nothing wrong with you. I had all the same feelings as you. Tracey

Body for Life Forum Message by scotfarcus (24 posts) at 04:24 PM:
Monica, do not blame your self. I've had two and just grieve, be angry, heal and try again. You did nothing to cause this. My doc said that 30% of all first pregnacies end with miscarriage. It is so difficult, I know, just please do not blame yourself.

I know this doesn't help at all but what scotfarcus said is true and as well my doctor told me that as many as 50 - 75% of pregnancies are lost and you don't even realize it - they just didn't "take" to begin with, you didn't even know you were pregnant.

I'm new to this site and don't know you but know exactly how you feel. I struggled to get pregnant the first time only to have it end and find out it was a molar pregnancy which meant I had to wait 12 months before even trying again. The next year, I got pregnant and had almost the same due date as the first. When my daughter was three I had another miscarriage and really struggled through the same questions as you. I kept saying, "I'm not on drugs, not an alcoholic, etc." and I'm a good mom....what's wrong with me? It really bothered me because all my friends were on their 3rd and 4th pregnancies with no problems and I kept striking out. I have since come to my own resolutions concerning "my plans" for a large family and have realized that I have what's perfect for me: a wonderful husband, a wonderful daughter and my health. Take your time and check in with us!

I lots a baby a few years ago and the best advise I can give you is take a little time off for yourself and take all the time you need. You are the only one who knows just how long that will be. Then get up and say okay it is time to get healthy because next go around I'm gonna have to have the strength to chase little people. Body for Life Forum Message by stepor (39 posts) at 07:22 AM: Team 8's first week
How was everyone on team 8's first week. I made some really good progress. I'm paying strict attention to portion sizes and focusing on staying busy so I don't think of food. I am happy with the first weeks results. A couple of our team members worked real hard but haven't seen the results yet, but remember it's not the scale that is going to really win this mini-challenge! It's how hard we focus. So lets get in the game this week, give me your numbers, how many days of water you drank all, how many days of bfl eating and how many days of excercise, that can be a max of 17 points. If you lose 1 percent of your bodyweight that will only be 1 or 2 points so lets focus on doing the right thing and not focus on the scale or pants size right now! CMon guys we can do it! Get those numbers in for week 1! Steve

For my new challenge starting tomorrow, one of my goals is to plan a week's worth of dinner so I know what to buy on shopping day and exactly what I'll be having for dinner each night. So, I know others do this and I am having a little trouble. Anyone mind posting your list of dinners for this week? Thanks to anyone who helps!!!!!!!!! ~Deb

Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (1095 posts) at 11:00 AM:
Mine lol the same as it always is 3 oz of lean protein 1 cup of green veggies ad 1 tbs of PB. Exciting huh! Don't run to copy it? I know it has you salivating like crazy right. But if I could have something for Dinner it would be EFL moms Enchiladas. The best part is, if you don't have a husband that will vacuum them up, then you will have a good amount of leftovers for the week.

Body for Life Forum Message by Daaang Girl (46 posts) at 11:04 AM:

3D--You HAVE to get the EFL book. I thought I was going to kill someone if I had to eat another chicken breast, but then I got the book. I haven't tried the enchiladas yet but I have read so much about them that I must! From the book, I like the turkey meatloaf and the turkey goulash. Also, the santa fe chicked soup which is on my list for this week! Thanks everyone. Now I'm off to the market! Yuck, The worst part. But at least I have direction.

Body for Life Forum Message by Nicabod (61 posts) at 11:24 AM:
TNT the buffalo chicken ROCKS. I had those last week. Oh, and I had the meatloaf, too. 3D, I make the meatloaf with 96% lean ground beef, and I use Mrs. Renfro's Roasted Salsa in it, which gives it a smoky flavor. Mmmmmm.... The enchiladas are my favorite, though. But I haven't made anything I didn't like yet!!

When it's time to make dinner, I look at the list and decide what I'm in the mood for. This way you a little more flexibility. Our dinners for next week will be Spaghetti & Meatballs, Turkey Meatloaf, Sloppy Joes, BBQ Chicken Pizza and Salisbury Steak (Cooking Light). I don't know how y'all can eat chicken and vegetables every night. I would die of boredom!

2. Spinach, broccoli, edamame, green beans.

3. Couscous, quinoa, brown rice, sweet potatoes.

They called me Wednesday! I am going to the Oprah show this Thursday! Neil Diamond and Samuel L. Jackson will be the guests! Can you believe that!?? woo-hoo! Then they called me again Friday night and asked me to e-mail a picture of myself! I almost e-mailed my "before" and "after" pictures! I'll just bring them with me though!haha Maybe I'll be on t.v.!!! I get to bring 1 person with me, and since Rod can't go, (he sucks, he doesn't know anything about Oprah!) ha (refer to his previous post), I am taking my Mom. Last Week: Felt like a slug. Faaaaaaat, ugly, no energy. This condition my husband has named self loathing. Going omg why did I give in to temptation? The guilt! Ongoodness it was overwhelming. The thought of cardio made me breathless! Lifting weights still excited me though lol. Feeling a little negative about because of my failures. This Week: Bursting at the seems with energy! Feeling better. No longer feeling or looking like a pigmy! Flat belly is returning. Most of all my energy is through the roof. My metabolism is running again! I feel positive and so incrediably happy! I am literally so excited about going to go do a 1 mile jog, sprint work, finishing it off with a few rounds of bleachers! Are you feeling the difference?

last week - eating everything in site (as long as it was NOT healthy, lol), NO exercise, not nearly enough water, feeling like a huge blob of fat. this week - feeling more energy, eating bfl authorized meals, so damn sore I could barely move a few days ago (climbing the stairs like a granny as Stef would say and grimacing every time I visited "john"), floating in water - visiting "john" every 1/2 hour or so (doing the potty dance all the time!!! This week: Dispite being sick all week...kicked some butt...and back down to pre-trip stats...energy returning full force!!! Denise

being my first challenge, I was able to keep my meals and water down to a tee...and my true exercise plan (with the weights) starts today. I feel great with more energy than I've had in a long, long time. as for my cheat day...I didn't even crave anything so I just kept on with plan. I'm only planning on eating the old crap if my body tells me to. I LOVE this program! so glad I found it! it's for life!! :)

Thread: I need help on my eating schedule, actually my wake up schedule (64 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by GET*HER*DONE (2922 posts) at 12:03 PM: I need help on my eating schedule, actually my wake up schedule

I am doing Great, I know that, I have wonderful results, But I have one weekness that is really messing me up, I think
My eating schedule,  I do eat every 2 1/2 to 3 hrs, but look how it's done

I don't work so I have no time schedule for anything usually.

I wake up about  9 or 10am I have to take my thyoid pill on an empty stomach and can't eat anything for at least one hr after taking it,
so sometimes when Sarah leaves for school I will go take it and then go back to bed, that way I can eat when I get up at 9 or 10.

then I am suppose to do cardio on an empty stomach, so I get dressed and go to the club, it takes 1/2 hr to get there and I workout for 1 or 2 hrs, just depends then another 1/2 hr to get home.

If I did it this way I would not eat my 1st meal till 1:30 to 2pm,
I tried this, I can't, I get a headache from not eating.

So I tried taking my thyoid pill early, go back to sleep, wake up at 10 , eat lite, go work out come home and it's time to eat again
but my trainer says and BFL says and everyone says, do cardio on an empty stomach.

My problem is my time schedule, I stay up real late, 12 to 1 in the morning and I get my 5 to 6 small meals in

Example today:
woke up at 10am take Thyoid pill with water
Meal 1)  11am lite shake with cottage cheese and coffee and water

leaving at 12:30 to go to gym, it doesn't open til 1pm on Sunday
workout 1 to 2:30   drink about 3 to 4   20oz water bottles

Meal 2)  2:30 RTD skake, glass water

Meal 3)  4pm  Smart choice TV dinner, low in cal and 11 carbs and 20 protien and they are good and water

Meal 4)  7pm   Frozen fruit in smoothie machine with water and whey protien

Meal 5)  10pm  Apple and Soynuts, diet coke

Meal 6 )  between 12 and 1am  cottage cheese AND YOUGURT

aNY IDEAS HOW i CAN DO BETTER

mY goal is to gain muscle and get Body fat % way down

If you're going to say wake up earlier, I can't I try,  honest, I tell Bill almost every night, make sure I wake up about 7 or 8 I want to go to the gym early, and he wakes me up, but I say ok and an hr later he wakes me up again, I am just a sleeply head!

My workout partner has to take a thyroid pill she takes hers in between Meal 1-2 sometimes between 2-3 Just waiting 1 hour after her meal then taking the pill and then waiting 1 more hour until she eats next meal. You could actually maybe get up earlier to take the thyroid or take it and go do your cardio as well. Then by the time you get home you can almost eat. When I do the empty stomach thing I usually wait 1 hour after cardio to eat anything to maximize fat loss. Just drink water prior to am fasted cardio. Hope that helps some. ;-)

Linda, my understanding of an empty stomach means after digestion is done. I can't do cardio at 6 a.m. every morning because I work 12 hour shifts. Sometimes I have to do cardio at 6p.m. which to me means I have a meal at 3:30p.m do cardio at 6p.m. and have another meal at 7p.m.Under the circumstances, sometimes that's the best I can do.

Body for Life Forum Message by goingforbuff (1552 posts) at 12:30 PM:
Linda...just sounds like your typical day's time frame is different than the majority, that's all! So your day starts at 9-10am when mine starts at 7am. On the days I do cardio, I do try to wake up just 1/2 hour earlier to do it (however, I can do mine at home). It really helps a lot when I do that, and it is really just 1/2 hour earlier. Then I eat no less than 1 hour after cardio. On weight training days, I eat breakfast at 7:45-8:00am, get to the gym around 9:00am and I bring a meal so I can eat it in the car or purchase a protein shake at the gym after I shower. I am usually right at the 3 hour mark when I get my second meal in and then just eat every 2-3 hours after that. Your schedule is just shifted, that's all, but really not at all different than mine. I try to be in bed by 11 or 11:30 at the latest. My last meal is usually around 9pm. So on cardio days, my eating timing is as follows: 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm Weight training days: 8am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm Your schedule could be as follows: Cardio days: (try to get up at 9am - to gym by 9:30) 1/2 hour for cardio. 11am, 1, 3pm, 6pm, 8:30pm, 11pm Weight training days: 9am, (to the gym), 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8:30pm, 11pm This allows for a consistent dinner time for your family of 6pm. Hope this helps a little.

oh ok, Thanks, I am going to try and wake up earlier, this means when everyone does to bed I should too, stay off the computer, and I will do back to doing cardio at home after I take my pill, that will work, now that I planned everything, Tomorrow, bills brother wants us to go help him move the grandfahter clock that means, Yes I wake up earlier but I have to leave soon after, but it's lower body day so, no problem I can do that in the evening, WOW< so much planning, which is no problem , the problem is I am just a sleepy head ,lol

Wow, I truly ate a lot of food... Sheesh. NC was great, we accomplished a lot on our trip, and think it looks like we will move to Hickory. Very cute town and you just can't beat the house prices, well compared to Naples anyway. Officially getting my butt back on track tomorrow ;) Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year! Ursula

Hickory is in the foothills of the mountains, about an hour east of Asheville. My husband wants to take a vacation in Myrtle beach so he can play golf the whole time ;) I like golf ok, but I really stink at it. In my head the person who can hit thier ball into the water the most wins :) Tracy, hmm I am not sure what a half back is, so I guess I am not one? Yeah it is busy down here, but its still beautiful. With the amount of money we can make selling our place we can buy a house in NC. Realestate down here is just amazing. But that's a good thing. I will miss the 70 degree winters, but FL can keep its hurricanes. Wilma was enough for me. I am just trying to decide what I want to start this week out with... UB or LB... Guess I could toss a coin... Just so long as it gets done ;) Urs

My son had an awful wreck last night. Totalled his Jeep Grand Cherokee. Lucky he had his seatbelt on.The vehicle completely rolled over. The officer told me if he didn't, my world would be a different place today. Only minor injuries and no one else hurt. For those of you that know me, I'm a full time Government Firefighter. I see this all the time, but when it is your own son, you become humbled.I also see that during the course of the Challenge, life will continue to dish out all the good with all the bad. My son is alive, we will deal with the Jeep, and I am going outside into the garage to have a ferocious leg workout. Bill Phillips knew what he was talking about when he called it a Challenge. Things can either be a "stumbling block" or a "stepping stone" depending on which way we turn it.....everyone out there give your family a big hug today and have a great Challenge...best in health...Bj

So sorry about your son but thank you so much for your words of encouragement. When I was doing the challenge before my mother-in-law had a major stroke and after three weeks passed away. My husband and I then had to put my father-in-law in a nursing home. (We were their caretakers.) During that time, the workouts weren't difficult but I was really shocked at the emotional/mental toll it took on me and I fell off track with the challenge. It just got to be too much working out, going to the nursing home to feed him lunch with my 3 year old daughter in tow (plus I had a miscarriage in the middle of all of it!!) I feel that experience really prepared me for this challenge. Stay strong and focused and yes, I will give everyone in my family a big hug tonight!

Thread: Starving kids in China (or somewhere) (38 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by VegasGuy (89 posts) at 04:50 PM: Starving kids in China (or somewhere)
As I was finally throwing out all of the Holiday leftovers that went bad before my 'free day' arrived, I remembered some things I learned as a kid that affected the way I eat. The first came from my Maternal Grandmother with whom I was very close with. She always encouraged me to clean my plate and would use that famous saying "you should be thankful because there are starving children in China (or some other place) that don't have enough to eat. This led me to learn to clean my plate, even when I was full. She meant well, but as we all know, this is a bad habit to learn. The other saying that has always stuck with me came from my Paternal Grandmother. She and I were not close, and I rarely saw her. She only said this to me once, but I never forgot it. I was eating a bowl of ice cream (my favorite thing in the whole world) and I started to feel full. I was kind of playing with my food and she asked if I was okay. I sheepishly told her that I was getting full. Her response was (and this was in the 1970's) was that it was "better to go to waste than to go to my waist". This was a total revelation for me. It was okay NOT to finish my plate? Wow. Unfortunately, Nurture vs. Nature was a tough enemy. Living primarily with the Maternal Families "clean your plate" attitude it became part of my 'psyche'. Still to this day I have trouble NOT finishing everything put in front of me (a good reason never to eat ice cream out of the carton...lol). But deep down in the back of my head I can still hear that once voice of reason saying "better to go to waste than to go to your waist". Stay Strong, Chris
