I use "vanilla ice cream" flavored egg whites. They are yummy!! I have used egg beaters before and didn't like them. I use them in the mornings and sometimes just before bedtime. Eggs get old fast. ha haa

I make sure I make it with skim milk- mix the powder into the milk before hand, make the oatmeal more soupy ( or it gets sticky) and then add cinnamon, a some toranis SF vanilla syrup to it- its yummy like that.
Body for Life Forum Message by GetNFit (817 posts) at 12:49 PM
It may be the protein mix you are using. I use the Vitamin Shoppe brand chocolate protein powder mix and it actually turns out pretty good. Every once in awhile I'll add splenda if I have a bit of a sweet tooth. I use 3/4 cups of oats (NOT the instant kind), one scoop of the mix, add 3/4 cups of water, stir, put in the microwave for 2 minutes and wa-lah, instant meal. It's not too bad.
Maybe you just need a different type of protein mix.

I ran until I went into labor. If I felt anything weird I would stop and walk. I was probably being paranoid but you can't be too careful. I ran my regular pace for the first 4 mos or so but always did steady state never interval training or anything that made me too out of breath. If you can talk you're probably OK. I did not lift at all after the 3rd month. I was scared. Running gets very unconfortable near the end but I was determined to stay in shape. I also used to power walk on a bike path near work during my lunch break.

Take a WW pita and cut it in triangles and separate the layers. Spray a baking sheet with pam and place the pita triangles on it. Spray the pita pieces with pam then sprinkle with garlic powder and salt. Bake at 250 degrees for about a half an hour. Serve with a portion of Cottage cheese mixed with a few TBLS of salsa.
OMG it was so good I felt like I was cheating!

Body for Life Forum Message by shibox (20 posts) at 01:25 AM
I treat it like a carb. I always have one serving before my workout, and one after. The serving after is easy, because I'm eating a meal after my workout anyways... but what does everyone think about the serving before? I usually have it by itself... but maybe I shouldn't be..
Body for Life Forum Message by blemt (186 posts) at 04:03 AM
Betagen is not going to be a meal component. The "carb" content is strictly to help the body quickly metabolize the creatine.
If you stay with the reccomended dosages on a BFL style eating plan the carbs in betagen are not going to impact you in a negative way.
:)
Body for Life Forum Message by Edward (34 posts) at 11:10 AM
Creatine and Betagen do not count as a carb.
Really not much else to say about it.
Continue to eat your 6 balanced meals a day and take your creatine as the directions say on the container.
And crazyblonde...creatine mixed with high glycemic powder (sugar) is not Betagen...it is still creatine.
Betagen contains creatine, HMB, l-glutamine, a B vitamin complex, and antioxidants. fyi

Emeril, On workout days you should drink a high quality protein shake within 15 minutes of working out. Your muscles need the protein as soon as possible after working out to help with repair and growth of muscle. I like using the Myoplex Lite shakes for this because it is also a meal replacement shake along with the protein.
On cardio days you should wait an hour after doing your cardio before eating.
As for the BetaGen, I take it 20 to 30 minutes before I workout, and then again in the evening. Most men seem to take it up to three times a day. You need to take the BetaGen even on your free days. You can call the EAS toll free number and talk to their team of experts, and they will be more then happy to answer any questions you have about supplements, nutrition, and exercise, and they do it all free of charge. Here is the toll free number: 1-877-263-9454
Best wishes too you!!!!

This is embarrassing...More for the women. When I get in my car for my 20 minute commute to work... I will listen to music. I flex my butt muscles to a song....squeeze in.....HOLD HOLD HOLD for the count of 10 and release....wait five seconds....start over "squeeze" hold hold hold.....release...and so on! I can't go the full 20 minutes, but so try to! By the time I get to work and get out of my car my but is VERY SORE but it totally works! :)
For Leg Press exercise: If you have a treadmill that folds up for storage...I have a heavy duty one that is really heavy. When it is down and ready to be run on...I take the base and crawl up under it, get on my back and rest it on my feet...then I just lunge...I do this 12,10,8,6,12,12...not that I am exceeding my weights, but just another excercise for my problem area! Of course by the time I am finished with my last set...it's somewhat risky trying to crawl out from under the treadmill LOL....my legs are usually screaming and wiggly!

All,
In the process of going from my highest preggo weight of 200 to where I am now I am losing my chest.
I would like to get implants after I complete my challenge so probably around May. Can anyone tell me what to expect?
I have a motorcycle and I am planning to ride to Sturgis in August. Will I be healed enough to ride comfortably or will my chest muscle still be weak?
Thank you
Body for Life Forum Message by Pixy (440 posts) at 03:16 PM
My girlfriend had them and she could have done that by 3 months.
Body for Life Forum Message by hurleyo (13 posts) at 03:17 PM
Had mine done last May and I was working out again in about 6 weeks, even running. You should be fine if you have it in May.
Body for Life Forum Message by thudson2000 (90 posts) at 04:23 PM
Over or under the muscle makes a big difference. Mine are over, and the muscle didn't get cut. I am in Canada, so I was able to get the cohesive silicone, which is less prone to ripples. Even with unders you would be fine by August, no problem.

I have some questions too...once you have the surgery I understand that you have to wait on working out your upper body (or is it just your chest muscles?), but what about the rest of you? Can you do cardio? Can you work your lower body? Abs?
Just curious!

Hey gals. This topic has been covered pretty extensively in another forum I haunt from time to time. http://www.oxygenmag.net. You can do a search on "implants" or just cruise around either the "Health Issues" or "Fashion and Beauty" forums.
There's tons of info over there.
Good luck!
Body for Life Forum Message by Edward (34 posts) at 05:09 PM
I wouldn't normally impose but you asked for advice. Oops, you asked the ladies but I'll reply anyway.
As a guy, I say don't get implants for two reasons:
1) Natural is better regardless of size
2) Getting implants implies you are a weak person with low self esteem.
Good luck in whatever you decide.
Body for Life Forum Message by hurleyo (13 posts) at 05:17 PM
To answer your questions about cardio, I started after about 3 weeks, just walking and then eased into running. I was wearing 3 tight sports bras though because I was still a bit sore. I am just now able to do 100% upper body. Push ups feel very different. It is easy for a guy to say natural is better. I probably would agree about the low self esteem but, after babies and loss of body fat they just start to kind of shrink up and sag and look gross.
Body for Life Forum Message by hurleyo (13 posts) at 05:18 PM
It did not effect lower body or abs at all just upper body.
Body for Life Forum Message by willowgerl (242 posts) at 05:37 PM
Yeah, she did aske the ladies, Ed. Sorry to react so irritably, but your first statement is a matter of personal choice (which you're entitled to, of course, regardless of the fact it doesn't apply here,) and your second statement is just asinine. I don't know of a single woman with implants who suffers from low self-esteem. Most of them want implants for the same reason they wear makeup; it enhances their appearance and makes them feel good about themselves. It is not indicative of a 'low self-esteem' to desire to enhance one's appearance. Otherwise there would be tons of people shuffling around their workplaces or on dates in their jammies, slippers and bedhead, eating cheetos and fudge and blowing their noses in their hands.
Good grief.

Edward,
Thanks for the insult!
I am trying to repair damage that I imposed on my body through the process of gaining weight and breastfeeding followed by weight loss.
If it makes me weak to want to have what I once had then I guess I fit that bill. By the same token I am assuming you are doing BFL to get back a youthful body that you once had. Sounds like the same thing to me????!!!!

I'm a Lifetimer and I love WW! It helps me maintain.
I've done about 8 weeks of BFL challenges and the eating is really no different from Core. It's a little more points than Flex for me. I have been trying to figure that out.
And who posted that WW is about Weightloss only has not followed the plan. They encourage Activity points and actively encourage weight training! I get in 20 points every week (1 mile walked is roughly 1 activity point). And, I can eat those extra earned points or not. I think that's how BFL eating is more, you're working out more!
Anyhow, just wanted to encourage you to go for the support. It makes a huge difference for me. Good luck to you! And, you'll be accountable to them.

I was heading to EMT class last night and I knew that it would be hard to get meals 4-6 done. So, I decided to drink a whole package of a Lean Body Shake. These are SUPER tasty by the way! Thanks for the tip TNT!
Anywho...The shake has 45 grams of protein.
Just a word to anyone that doesn't normally take in that much protein in one setting....DON'T!
I now understand the bowel troubles that some people get from increased protein.
There I was, sitting at the front of the class, holding in my toots and grimacing with each gas pain. Holy Moly!!!
Let's just say you wouldn't have wanted to be in the car with me on the ride home!

Body for Life Forum Message by Muscles_Marinara (34 posts) at 10:31 AM
I don't think it was the protein as much as it was the lactose..
Apparently, like most adults, you have at least some Lactose intolerance.
(Whey is made from milk..)
Body for Life Forum Message by Muscles_Marinara (34 posts) at 10:36 AM
Ohhh yeah.. (The innernet roxxorz)
Lean Body Shakes first listed ingredient is "Cross Flow Ultrafiltered Whey Protein Concentrate"
In English? It means it has loads of Lactose in it..
Check this out: http://www.wheyoflife.org/faq.cfm#20
"Individuals with lactose intolerance should avoid whey protein concentrates as they usually contain lactose and the amount can vary greatly from product to product."
I'd try Lactaid with your shake next time, I'll betcha your toots will subside on their own :)

Hello, can someone review the guidelines for skim milk? Is it a carb or protein or both?
I'm searching around for my book, but can't find it. Guess I'll order another on Amazon! I'm so glad I can download the workout forms on the bfl website!
Body for Life Forum Message by Pixy (440 posts) at 03:19 PM
I use it as a carb with some whey protein before lifting, but don't know what BFL says about milk. I do know if you have cereal milk is not considered protein. Hope that helps.
Body for Life Forum Message by Janie (7 posts) at 04:09 PM
It's considered both and can be had in moderation on the program. I do what Pixy does, mix it with protein powder for a super-quick meal.

From Eating-for-LIFE and Bill Phillips:
Q: I am starting to "eat for life" and I am big milk drinker, can I still have a glass of milk with our meal? --Kristen
A: Keep in mind, each glass of milk contains a fair number of carbohydrates and protein. If you do decide to have a glass of milk with your meal, you need to "downsize" your whole-food carbohydrate and protein sources accordingly. Remember, one portion of protein and one portion of carbs for each meal.
Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (527 posts) at 05:01 PM
I count it as a carb.

I have been wondering... the palm of your hand and the size of your fist... So, if we have our palm worth of tuna as a serving of protein we are ok. If we have our palm worth of chicken breast we would also be ok. However the grams of protein in chicken is not exactly the same as the grams of protein in tuna. So, what do you think one has to do, look at the grams of protein or look at the size? Also, how do you know how much protein you have to take daily in order to build muscle. I don't really want to start using muscle as fuel!

Does anyone know a BFL friendly recipe for caesar salad dressing? I LOVE chicken caesar salad, and would love to work it in to my BFL menu if I can.
Body for Life Forum Message by Nicabod (121 posts) at 07:07 PM
The EFL cookbook has a grilled chicken caesar wrap, and there's a picture of the lowfat caesar dressing he uses. It's not bad. I mean, it's definitely not as yummy as the artery-clogging real thing, but it's decent.

The only cardio I LOVE to do is running.... I am experiencing pains in my shin... up and down along my front shin bone in the muscle which runs along side of it. Am I over doing it... what can I do about this? Anybody experience shin pains before?
Body for Life Forum Message by Miss Fit (359 posts) at 08:07 PM
My favorite cardio exercise is running, too. I've been plagued with shin splints (speed work can help cause them and HIIT is major speed work for me). Overuse can result in shin splints and there are a few things you can do to help if you catch them early:
1. New Shoes. If you have a running store nearby, they can help determine if you over or under-pronate and can help you find the proper shoe support. Most running stores have a 30 day return policy, too, so if the shoe you purchase doesn't work out for you, they'll let you exchange for another pair. Weird, I know, but awesome.
2. Stretch, stretch, stretch. Before and after running. Try to toe lifts and other strengthening exercises.
3. Variety. I know you ONLY love running, but you need to mix it up and try some biking or elliptical, too. Trust me.
4. REST. =(
Also, here's a link on more shin splint info:

Best of luck to you!

Has anyone used the Dr. Natura Colonix while doing BFL? I started it in December and was having great results even seeing hte plaque buildup removed. Then had to stop for 10 days because I was taking an antibiotic and you can't mix the two. Well I started back on the colon cleanse at the same time I started BFL and it didn't seem to work anymore plus I also added in the probiotics suggested which seemed to slow things down even without the added protein. The extra protein for some reason made the other products ineffective. I tried adding more fiber, less fiber, more water, steeping the tea longer and nothing changed. So basically I wasted a whole months worth of this product and the money I spent on it. Any suggestions on what worked would be great. I talked to the customer service and she said the results were typical for people on the normal American diet or those fasting. She didn't know what the extra protein would do.
Just a heads up for those who are new to trying it and are about to start. Although it didn't work great for me, it did work great for my boyfriend. But he follows what they call "normal diet".

Hey, I have had that happen to me. I went to court yesterday and was supposed to be there for 10 min but that turned into 7 hours..... and I didnt pack lunch. So I finally ate a bagel with cream cheese, because I was feeling faint ad didnt have time to sit down with a salad of other authorized meal. It happens to everyone. The key is to not let those days turn into whole free days. I came home and ate a big salad with chicken and later had a shake.
You have to remember it's FOR LIFE, even though sometimes life gets in the way. So just pick upp where you left off when you get off track.
I for one am getting better and better at doing it in spite of the unexpected. Don't let one mistake turn into a whole day of mistakes. Remember its what you do most of the time...

Rie, any new updates?
Would this be safe if you travel all the time? When I say safe, I mean having to run to the restroom all the time!
Also, do you feel any more energized or just more regular?
Anyone else receive theirs yet and have tried it?
Body for Life Forum Message by Rie (539 posts) at 10:32 AM
It would be fine to travel because you become very "on the clock"...I know that if I drink the tea anywhere from 8-10pm, then I have about 15 minutes after I wake up before its time to go....
then after the fiber, anywhere from 15-30 minutes depending on what Im doing...but its never been urgent- just like normal...
One thing I did notice ( and only after 3 days) is that although I still wake up the same way ( like a mouldering cadaver clawing its way to the surface) where it used to take me 15 minutes or so to even start feeling awake, now Im "rarin to go" ( as my mom would say) after about 5....and I dont get that midday fugue I usually have-
All in all a lot more energy...
Body for Life Forum Message by 3D (86 posts) at 11:16 AM
So, is there some kind of tea or something to take that would just move things along faster rather than get involved in the parasite removal? I don't think I could handle that. I freaked when I saw little white worms in my dog's poop one time. I don't even know what possessed me to look but I'm glad I did. Went straight to the vet!
Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (724 posts) at 11:32 AM
3D, you could try Smooth Move tea. It has many of the same ingredients as the Claritea in the Colonix package. Drink one cup right before bed, and prepare to spend some time in the bathroom the next morning.

Hey all, just out of curiosity, why do you cleanse? Is it for weight loss, or stoppage, both? Just curious as to why you would do it and what benefits it provides.
Body for Life Forum Message by Rie (539 posts) at 12:34 PM
HB- I've never had a problem, except that Im a notorious "run for the ducolax" kinda girl if I feel even a little stopped up...
and Robin, I did it for a few reasons-first was that after reading the site out of curiousity, I had a talk with my neighbor ( who's a Doctor) who told me that if you have animals....you have parasites...especially if they are outdoor animals...I wanted that gone. Secondly, I wanted more energy and better skin tone, hair, nails, and those seemed to be happening with people doing the program.
I found a really weird side effect that was mental. It actually made me feel as if I was doing something good for myself that I was doing PERFECTLY.I don't know how many people feel this way ( or would admit it) but I am left feeling many days like BFL is some kind of wonderful secret that I don't quite get. I eat and do the excercises, but I can't say that until recently I haven't been slightly confused as to whether Im actually doing it like Im supposed to.Since I started the cleanse, I feel more competent, and that has led me to start doing things a competent person does. Like getting the key to our school gym to use during my lunch, and having a coach come in to show me exactly what and how to do.To make a long story longer, it makes me feel like being healthy and figuring it out.

3D,
I understand how you wouldn't want to see any creepy crawlies in the toilet but seriously...would you rather have them inside of your intestines?
So the way I see it is they're either in the toilet or in your guts...OR... you'll find out that you never had them to begin with.
You can't lose!
Body for Life Forum Message by 3D (86 posts) at 04:11 PM
If they're in there and I don't know it then ignorance is bliss! If I see them I will assume there are more and that would not be so blissful!
Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (724 posts) at 04:25 PM
That's also why a lot of people refuse to do preventative exams to detect cancer!
Body for Life Forum Message by 3D (86 posts) at 04:32 PM
Well, I don't do that. Just had a mammogram as a matter of fact. I am very pro-prevention. I am a little unsure about the whole idea of worms in my intestines. I don't know if I even believe that is possible without eating raw animal foods. I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm just saying I don't know without more research. What I do know is that something in my diet is constipating me and my 'gut' feeling is that it's the Myoplex, the cottage cheese and just the extra protein in general. Over the month of December I didn't use any supplements besides a multivitamin and I was normal and regular. Can i give up my beloved Betagen, Myoplex RTD, ONwhey, nightly cottage cheese and berries? I believe that is the solution-for me. Now I will ignorantly go on with my life assuming that creepy crawlers live in the ground and not in me. I'm smiling when I say that, I'm not being nasty!! :)
Body for Life Forum Message by willowgerl (242 posts) at 05:25 PM
I've been hesitant to comment on this topic, although I've seen the threads. I used to do colonics and 'herbal' cleanses complete with kaolin clay, wacky diet, etc, so I understand first hand that proponents of colon cleansing can get a bit zealous with their pet therapy, not to mention intolerant of viewpoints from medical professionals that allude the practice is worthless at best and damaging at worst. But here goes.
My own experience? It didn't so a thing for me over the long term (meaning the off and on 9 months I did this - both herbally and irrigation). Naturally at first I was intruiged by the thought of crusted over crap in my intestines, and my first few cleanses were exhilirating because I was absolutely convinced I was doing something positive for myself. But eventually I just felt depleted. And in truth I was.
I have found that more often than not, traditional advice is best: eat a well balanced diet (which BFL is); drink lots of water (which you do on BFL); get enough fiber, sleep and exercise and all will be well in most cases. Our bodies are astoundingly resilient to environmental and dietary toxins if given a chance. But to each their own and all I will say that cold, hard research and common sense usually holds sway with me over over-zealous sales pitches. And, as a former IBS sufferer, I can tell you that in the year and a half since I've been following the traditional advice I'm about as regular as a clock.
No doubt I'll get flamed by a few ardent supporters of colon 'cleansing', but oh well. Here is a good article to start with for those of you who are interested in researching not-so-glowing reports.

Body for Life Forum Message by willowgerl (242 posts) at 06:56 PM
3D - no I wasn't on any sort of meal replacements or supps at that time.
If you suspect it's the meal replacements what are giving you grief, then try and go without them for a week, and/or up your fibrous veggies and see how it goes. I hardly ever drink shakes (matter of personal taste - more work for me, but I've found ways around that), but I do take betagen.
Body for Life Forum Message by Rie (539 posts) at 07:20 PM
Nah- no flaming here...I think to each his own.I believe it's right for me, and when I spoke to the doctor he said at worst, no harm.
3d: A cut and paste from a parasite...uh...site-lol
"Parasites worms can invade your bodies through food and water intake, through a transmitting agent (like a mosquito), sexual conduct or through the nose and skin. Once established, they will eat the same foods you eat or they will eat you."
I think if you don't think they are for you then by all means don't do it....and that those who feel they are beneficial should continue.
Body for Life Forum Message by kitwhit (71 posts) at 07:57 PM
I will have to agree with Rie - I work with bare hands in the soil, I clean my cat litter boxes (yes plural). When I was 4 or 5 I had worms. I do know that parasites make their homes in us. Maybe not across the board but I am willing to go through a benign treatment to ensure that I am getting rid of the ones that might be there. I take my pets in to be wormed once a year why would I not do the same for myself? Do I like the idea of seeing it? NO! But I could live in denial forever. I am not overweight. I see people everyday who are much fatter than I am. Why bother? I have family members who have died from cancer and heart disease but why should that bother me?
I am new to this. I happen RIGHT NOW to have enough saved to try it and I am willing to try it. And it might be life changing and it might not. But that is my choice - my disposable income - my fun.
Tomorrow I will have my annual mammogram and return to the delivery of my cleanse. What can it hurt?

One of the most difficult things that happens with a transformation is the impact it has on people around us.
Depending on the person, the reactions can go from ho hum to all out attempts to sabotage your forward progress.
We all cross the abyss in our own time, our own place. It's the one part of the journey nobody else can make for us. Your roomate isn't ready yet to make the crossing. Accept that, and accept that you don't have the power to make her jump off the cliff.
If her depression is coming to a point where it's causing you problems, you need to sit down and talk with her. Don't be judgemental, or accusetory. Make sure you listen to what she is saying.
See if you guys can work together to come up with a situation that you both can live with.
And remember, at the end of the day you need to decide what things are really most important to you.
Good luck! I've been in your shoes, and know it's not a fun place.
Body for Life Forum Message by fitprincess (7 posts) at 07:41 AM
Obviously your roommate has some deeper issues to deal with before she can even begin to transform her body. I think we all know people, tons of them, that say they wish they had something, but never make an attempt to get it. One of the things most people say is that they want to be in shape, but most never put an ounce of effort into eating right or working out. The reason... they just don't want it bad enough, or just haven't had their ah-ha moment yet.
If your roommate is going out to get junk food and then coming home to gorge and then cry about it, she needs help. This is the kind of behavior that can turn into an eating disorder in the long run. She needs professional help, and you should be very kind-hearted when discussing these issues with her.
The best thing you can do is be supportive of her. You have made the decision to change, and it sounds like you are well on your way. At this point, she needs more from you than she can give in return. Help her, but stay focused on your goal as well. Seeing you transform may be the turning point for her. Try filling yourself with compassion instead of anger. You have the opportunity to change someone's life for the better!

It went really well! I have to take a test covering their philosophy on heart rate training that every instructor has to incorporate into the classes. Good stuff! Unfortunately there is a class (only 1 every 3 months) on the same day as competition for my daughters...she was nice enough to let me study on my own and take the test. If I pass, we will proceed and I will start subbing and then will be on the schedule when the new one starts in April with my own classes, yippee!!! I will start with basic training classes and strong (both resistance training/weight lifting) and then after I get my feet with that, hopefully some cardio kickboxing!! I am excited!! Need to get studying.

I have just totally skipped a monthly cycle------I've had the "side effects" for the last two weeks (irritation, backache, bloating, and YES weight gain this week).....BUT no cycle.
We need a Doctor on site who can help with these kinds of things.......how can I rid myself of the bloating and the water weight (I feel sure that's what these 3-4 lbs. are)?????
This is a real pain (figurativly and literally)
Body for Life Forum Message by bubblz7 (86 posts) at 07:39 AM
Agent, any chance you might be pregnant? Just a thought. I have never skipped one and regular to the 28th day. Sometimes that sucks, but usually its a good thing. LOL
Might be with all your lifting and running, your body is just a bit confused. If there's no chance of pregnancy, I'd wait a few weeks (2) and if you havent started but still feel the same way, visit your GYN.
Remember, NEVER GIVE UP!!

What's your body fat %?? You HAVE lost a lot of weight.... a lot of gymnasts and dancers I knew when I was involved in those things didn't get periods bc of low body fat. I don't know if that is a harmful thing though. I think if it continues it could eventually up your chance of osteoporosis so maybe talk to your doc if it happens again....
Body for Life Forum Message by BFL bride to be (44 posts) at 08:11 AM
Same thing happened to me this month. After a few days of freaking out about buying a maternity wedding gown instead of one that I've been eyeing, I told myself it was just stress, and magically it came. I think if you are working out very hard the stress on your body can cause you to have ammenorrhea, but I'd take a preg test just in case (if needed).
As far as the bloating, avoid anything salty, drink even MORE water, and maybe try a gentle diuretic. Pamprin usually works for me.

Okay, I finally get a break! I can't believe that it has been 4 weeks of exhausted 2 hr medication round the clock!!! But the good news is, the vet came out yesterday and we saved the eye (horses). There is a large amount of scarring, but we will deal with that later, he does have sight and this is a good thing.
The good new is I only have to medicate 4 times a day after Wed.! Woooo Hooo! And I know he is tired of seeing me coming, and tired of having me sticking him. And the best thing is I can throw away my last challenge (which never even got off the ground) and start fresh. I weighed this morning and my stats are the same as when I last posted, so I will just move forward on Wed??? Guess I'm burning more than I think by staying up so much, just appearing more flabby!!!
I am looking forward to getting back to a regular life again....are there any mini challenges going on?

Jansen....so happy to hear the good news aboutyour horses eye.
I feel where youre coming from-I have just started "fresh" too-after 4 weeks of basically NO sleep, taking care of my dog Rocky.(Up evry 1-2 hours to take him out or to the ER) Its crazy how lack of sleep will halt ALL progress with a challenge isnt it? In 4 weeks I only dropped 2 lbs but I FEEL completely flabby compared to a month ago.
Lets ROCK it this time!! Welcome back!
Body for Life Forum Message by jansen (155 posts) at 12:05 PM
Dana D......I am so glad I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I feel sleep deprived, caffine overloaded, frustrated and like you said FLABBY! I am sure that there were minutes in there I "could" have exercises, but if I were to have fallen over, I don't think I could have gotten up, ha! I haven't lost any weight, but I haven't gained it either so that is my only good news. I hope Rocky is recovering okay and that you won't have to go through that again, because I don't think I can do this another time. I am off to pick up more meds...thanks for helping make my day brighter! Here's to a new challenge!!!!

In another shameless plug of myself, LOL, I posted my one-year photos. The first set, in the C1W0 spot, is one year since I started EFL in September '04. It wasn't until January '05 that I started BFL in full... that's the photo in C5W3. As you can see, there is some difference between the September photo and the January photo... but the big difference is the one year shot.
I'm not breaking any speed records in the weight loss department, but this is the first time I have EVER been able to say that I have stuck with ANY program for a year... EVER. And that tells me that this really is for life. And I am 2 pounds away from losing 50 pounds since that very first photo in September '04.
So why am I sharing this? Well, for one, I'm pretty damn proud of my accomplishment! But more than that, I want anyone who is new here and has a lot of weight to lose to see that BFL really does work if you stick with it. It's going to take more than 2 or 4 or even 6 weeks to see results, but you WILL see them if you follow BFL.
xoxo Jess

To anyone who has completed a 12 week program, can results take as long as 6-7 weeks to start really showing... and once they do, will they really accelerate at that point in the final weeks? I am very happy with my progress heading into my 6th week, but I am hoping things pick up and improve more drastically in the coming weeks!!
Body for Life Forum Message by NormRebs (343 posts) at 09:10 AM
Most people will start seeing big changes after week 6 or 7 but that also depends on the person, (not missing workouts and eating clean)
Body for Life Forum Message by Mucca500 (131 posts) at 09:23 AM

Body for Life Forum Message by GetNFit (817 posts) at 09:25 AM
I cant speak for the guys, but for most women we start to see real results after week 8.
If you are not seeing the results you think you should be having, take an honest look at your program and make sure you are working to your fullest intensity. Dont be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. When you think you can only go to level 8 on the treadmill or bike, kick it up a notch to level 9 just to make sure! When you think you can only press 12 reps, reach waaaaayyyyy down deep and go ahead and go for pressing that 13th rep!!!

Had Insanity sauce from Jungle Jim's restaruant on my index finger from tasting it one time (bad idea -- this is the stuff you have to sign a waiver in order to eat) and TWO days, multiple hand washings, and two showers later I take my contacts out to clean them.. HOLY MOLY.. My eyes burned so bad the tears were down my neck.. and my sinuses got all plugged that I sounded like a duck when I talked. Lasted for close to a freaking hour.. yea word from the idiot.. don't do that!!
Body for Life Forum Message by ICU_RN (882 posts) at 10:56 AM
I have horribly sensitive skin that burns if I touch jalapenos with bare hands....even after multiple washings. We keep a box of surgical gloves in our kitchen to use when playing with raw meat, chicken, pork, etc. and I use those when cutting up jalapenos. Once I'm finished, everything I've used (cutting board, knife, etc) goes into the dishwasher, then I pull of the gloves and I don't have to worry about any burning.
Melanie = )
Body for Life Forum Message by Booloo (43 posts) at 11:15 AM

I didn't realize that the oils could stay on skin so long, until I was making salsa one day and cut up a bunch of jalepenos. The oil got under my fingernails and it took DAYS to get it out. It burned so bad!

Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (873 posts) at 12:11 PM
yes...but even one hand washing doesn't make it all come off!
The next day I was using the iron on my hair and my fingers were burning just from being near the heat.
and yes....rubbing eyes after cutting jalepeno's--bad. Plan on not rubbing eyes for days.

I cooked Hot Stuff Chili last night and remembered to cover my hands throughout. Learned my lesson from a couple of months ago when I made the chili for the first time and didn't know that jalepenos would do so much damage.

This "OLDER" lady (I only referenced her as that because I was surprised this would come from her) I worked with once told me they were having dinner guests one night and they were bringing jalapeno poppers. They didn't show & the husband called from the emergency to say they wouldn't be able to make it. Seems they made them together, then went for a quickie before going out. She said the woman was actually burned!!!!!!! I've had them burn my hands so for her that must have been an ouchie.

Carry it with you! I work with the airline industry and unless you are on your own private plane there is nothing salvageable to eat. Bars, shakes, some raw veggies, hardboiled eggs - you could even broil a chicken breast and take that. Safe travels!
Body for Life Forum Message by Dana D (582 posts) at 11:23 AM
I agree w/kit..just pack up some food and take it with you. I was traveling alot a few months ago and would take bars, WATER, Myoplex RTD's (you can always get ice on board), and a chicken breast sandwich on whole wheat seems to travel well. Personally I would pass on the hard boiled eggs-the smell might not go over well on a crowded flight. :)
Oh yeah...and almonds are easy to pack too.

I always pack a couple of meals for my husband when he's travelling. Use a lunchbox with a freezer pack or two. Some of the things I pack are grilled chicken or steak, raw veggies, yogurt & cottage cheese, tuna salad with a pita, and fruit salad. Of course you can never go wrong with protein bars and shakes. Just remember, where there's a will, there's a way. You can do it!

I do have a list of names of the 200+ passengers. But I don't know which are Trackers! I estimate there are easily 20-25 Trackers. Where are you?
I know there are over 24 Canadians coming!!! 6 jetting from Australia/New Zealand. Several traveling from United Kingdom, Ireland, Scotland, Japan & Mexico.
So... who is from Tracker? Who has reserved... or hopes to!!! Like Mike said...Chime in so we can start to communicate and get to know each other...

I'm competing to try and win the Cruise, and I have to tell you if I can stay healthy, I think I've got a decent shot at it - I'm motivated and I'm playing to win!
But if I don't win, I still want to go. So my question is if I put down my deposit and all that for the cruise (which I'm not sure I want to do, because it may deter my motiviation for winning) and my hard work pays off and I win, do I get a refund, although the competition ends after the refund date. If I don't put down a deposit, can I still go if there's space available after the competition, because I'm sure I would have felt like I still earned it. (That and hubby and I are trying to figure out a vacation for this year anyway).
Does anyone know?
Laurie

Laurie, I'd do as Linda suggests, but you might want to write to Jerry Braam with that question.
I have my deposit in, and I'm going whether or not I win.

Every day at work, I wear pants, a top that fits loosely over the top of the pants (NEVER a tuck in - horrors!!), and a jacket to cover it all up. (It's a cover-the-fat thing, do you understand?) Since I'm feeling a bit better about the way my clothes are fitting these days, I'm now daring to -- hold onto your seats! -- take the jacket off at work.
Anyway, just now I had to walk down the hall to ask a co-worker a question. I reached down to put on my jacket, and I thought, "Nah. I can brave the long walk without the camouflage." And oh yes, it felt GOOD!
As if that weren't goofy enough - I was feeling so good about it, that I kept walking around the office! Look at me without my jacket! You can see my waist now! That's right...26.5 inches, folks! Then I got dangerous...I saw a crowd in the kitchen - everyone gathered around the table eating their lunches - and....I walked in! Ha ha!! The smell of their yummy food was overwhelming, but I forged on and fixed a cup of green tea. They were all talking about diets. Mwaahaahaa!
When I got back to my office I had to close the door and giggle to myself. What a dork! But I love it!!

I love that you are such a dork. That is exactly something I would do - and have done. :) It feels really good to wear skinnier pants with a *slightly* tighter sweater that doesn't camoflage the midsection so much, huh?

I read a while back how Pixy was shooting for 3 miles on her HIIT and at the time she was at 2.6. Becasue of her inspiration I adopted her goal to run 3 in HIIT and I have been pushing it a bit farther each time now and boy I just finished my cardio and WOW 2.64 rocked my world. I am so pumped to push farther on Thursday. My goal is to be at 2.8 by the end of February and then 3 by the end of March.
Pixy and Averismom you both ROCK!
Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (724 posts) at 01:06 PM
Way to go!! Rock your HIITS!!
Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (527 posts) at 02:02 PM
I have also adopted that goal.... I ran 2.81 Sunday- felt like I was gonna DIE but then I felt great! Every time I run I either increase the speed of my 9 by a tenth, or try to run at my 9 level for a little longer....
How fast are you running on average?
Body for Life Forum Message by sixpack (73 posts) at 02:08 PM
Whoa! You Rock! I am going 5,5.5,6.3,7.3,8.3,9.4,6.4,7.4,8.4,9.5,6.5,7.5,8.5,10,7,8,9,10,11,7
That was 2.64 today and I was whipped. These are all my speeds in MPH. This is the 3rd time I have run 11 as my 10 and it was not as bad so I am going to push my first minute speeds up a bit next time. I only run a minute on each speed also.
Reagiesmom you are amazing. You are not far off, maybe a week away. Keep me posted.
Body for Life Forum Message by Robin78745 (51 posts) at 02:12 PM
Dude thats a great goal! I like that idea; I think I may try to catch up with you. I like running outside but I haven't gotten one of those little hingamajiggies for on my arm.
BTW, dude, nice progress!
Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (527 posts) at 02:48 PM
Sixpack all you need to do is make your 9.0 and 10.0 times a little longer than a minute and you'll be there b4 you know it.... my treadmill diesnt go up to 11 mph but I do 9.3 for a minute near the end and finish with 30 sec to a min of 10 mph. The key i think is to shorten your slower segments to just long enough to recover.... I vary my workout but a typical one would be.... 6.5, 7.2, 8.2, 8.2, 9.2, 7.2, 7.2, 8.2, 8.2, 9.2, 7.2, 7.2, 8.2, 8.2, 9.2, 7.2, 8.2, 9.2, 9.5. 10. (one min each)
Keep me posted!

just curious before I purchase it

Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (724 posts) at 02:10 PM
I have the book, and it's a tremendous resource. I'm following its guidelines for my current Challenge. I think the opening chapter(s) on mental preparation are worth the price alone.
(Disclosure: I won it in the last BFLers competition...still, it's well worth the price.)
Body for Life Forum Message by Joe (153 posts) at 02:24 PM
I am just about finished with this book. It has helped me learn a lot about things that Bill discusses in BFL but Tom goes into much more detail.
I think it is a good read for anyone doing a challenge so that they can learn how to maximize thier results.

11 years ago...Bill Phillips original manuscript (which I read after the cruise at Jeff Siedman's gym in South Beach, Florida) is about 3 inches thick & went into the deep physiologic & psychological aspects of mental and physical transformations. (BFFM is now somewhat similar to it). Bill later decided he could reach more people if his ideas were boiled down, kept simple, with just the essentials (the basics ). He was right!
As we all know, BFL was all that was needed...to transform millions worldwide. This is why Body-for-LIFE became...
USA Today's top 15 books... of the Decade!
