Ellimintaing a lot fo things such as dairy, bread, and pasta and yes zig zagging your calories is a great idea too. You can also try 2 cardio sessions 2 @ 30 min ea. per day for one week only. To throw your body for a loop.
If you are over training then you need to take a break from training stay on diet!!! though. Rest is important to an over trained person not a break from diet. Hahaaa the reason I stress this is because I dealt with a plateau for 3-4 months. It was awful. And when I took a break from training I don't know why I got the Einstein idea that the break also included from diet too. Duhhhh amazing how our magnificent brain works huh.
What it came down to for me was eliminating those 3 items from my diet and zig zagging of calories. Good luck. Plateau sucks big time. Just keep working through it.

Hi, I would like to introduce a different type of high intensity cardio workout. I know cardio routines can get boring and sometimes you need to change things up to keep it interesting.
This program is called Max-OT cardio. Its very intense and lasts 16min. Here is a link to the article explaining all about it. Try it out and let me know what you think.

I don't know, Flower, because I think I'm from that era too! My dad liked C.S. Lewis and he read the books to us as kids.
A good site for non-biased ratings/movie information is www.kidsinmind.com...but since they sort of describe the movie without telling you too much of the story they sometimes make it sound worse than it is. Still - a very helpful site considering today's system of movie ratings.
Let me know if you and your nine yr. old like the movie! Since you've never even heard of it, it would be neat to hear your impression.

Isn't that Lee Priest? I've seen similar pics of him and could hardly believe it. We'd look at that and think, "man that dude's outta shape." Incredible.
Now that's living the good life! Pig out for a few months and then get ripped for the summer. And get paid for doing it!
Body for Life Forum Message by nutz (110 posts) at 07:46 AM
Bulking theory, as I understand it is a period of time when your workouts are designed to totally destroy your muscles, forcing them to grow. Typical bulking workouts consist of using very heavy weights (80% max), low reps, and long rest periods between sets. Many go to failure on each set and beyond failure via forced reps or other shocking principle.
The diet needed to support muscle growth typically consists of very high calories with 50% or more coming from carbs and lots of protein. As you can see from the pic Chuck provided, fat gain is not a big concern.
Bulking periods are followed by cutting periods.

Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (724 posts) at 08:20 AM
nutz, yeah that is Lee Priest. Im trying to bulk up myself but Im following a more "clean" bulking strategy. Im not eating everything in sight, just more clean foods. Im trying to gain around 1lb a week with minimal fat gain.

This post is a great way to start my morning..Thank you amkazen for sharing your amazing story!!
Besides my Son and my Baby Rocky (my Min Pin), my most cherished gift was a necklace from my Sister. It was a beautiful gold "Portuguese Princess" Charm.
She had ordered it for me for Christmas, but it didnt arrive in time for her visit home to CA. She kept telling me she had it for me, but like so many of us,-day to day schedules got in the way of her ever mailing it to me.
Eight months later, my Sis was murdered & robbed in her apt. The punks took everything EXCEPT my necklace..unbeleievably it was left on top of her dresser and the police recovered it!
Once it was in my hands-I never took that necklace off!! It was more than just a necklace-it made me feel like I had a lil bit of Jen w/me every time I looked at it.
After wearing it for 12 years straight,Unfortunately the chain broke during my drive/move to AZ. Not wanting to lose it-I put it in the glove box until I could find a jeweler in my new city. Before I could get it fixed my truck was stolen, and now my Precious necklace is floating somewhere around in Mexico.
Im still heartbroken over it, but I have the memories, and might even get myself another one if I ever find one like it.

You raised some good points. Since the pm in question has been deleted I can only go by my vague memory. First it was not harassing it was actually more complimentary than anything at least thats how I assumed the recipient would take it, second it was not amodellawyer. I'm trying to to chose my words carefully here; they way I interpreted it was the recipient was using the pm as fuel as if to say - I'm okay, see what so & so wrote about me. This is just my memory of it, it wasn't there for long. It all seems to have blown over and if I'm wrong or my interpretation is I apologize - it was only the way I saw it.

My 2 cents... "appropriate" may be in the eye of the beholder... but really to me, the question is what is the intent of this site... are the risque posts keeping with that intent and promoting the positive efforts (in both ot and regular threads) that are the basis of this site? If there are as many as there appear that object to the risque threads, then is the request to take it to a different venue (pm's or emails) out of line? I certainly don't think mudslinging has to be involved... I think we all just need to keep the bottom line in focus.. that the webmaster created something very positive and supportive here and we need to try to maintain that.
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (241 posts) at 07:48 AM
amkazen.......I appreciate you !!
as for the PM's asking for nudie pictures; I have received them for the last several weeks, by different people, amodellawyer did not make one request for them.
The people who have requested them of me, I have gotten the NO aspect across in a deserving manner.
As you can see I make ALOT of posts to this site in the average day, as this is my means of staying with the program, staying motivated, thank god I have a job that currently allows me to do that.....as this will not always be the case.
And for those that have USED the magnifying glass to see what my posts are, they have remained the same in the past months, about 70/30 (70% being motivational, etc. comments and 30% being fun posts).
I feel that in addition to the motivation we give (and get) here we need to have fun as well.....and depends on a persons individual perspective.
Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (163 posts) at 08:05 AM
Having fun can be done on personal email, too, unless you're worried about the mail being seen by spouse or employer--in which case it might be a bit more than just having fun? I guess that is the big stumper for me. It's easy with a screen name and in the spur of the moment to say things on a board that we'd never do in "real life" because we'd be worried about what others might think. And, if that's the case, if it's something off color enough to cause that concern, then perhaps it's simply not worth putting on the boards at all. I'm not trying to be a censor, as obviously I have no power or need to do anything here, but I'm just commenting on some of the things I've read here and that I have seen on some of the other threads after the big "blowup." I've seen it written that all others have to do is "not read it." But, until the titles of the threads read soemthing like, "warning, nasty, adulterous sex talk going on here" then I don't see how people would really know.
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (241 posts) at 08:25 AM
point taken Mike
but, threads titled as such; Penis Thread, Vagina, Sex, BFL girls gone Wild, Warning; Naked Women, etc., etc.,
well, that's a no brainer, atleast it is for me, and if I chose to open it then I get what I deserve and I should take offense to anything written there.
Ofcourse if the thread has a subject title not to be interpreted as such....then the reader finds offending material, there is certainly a problem.
just my opinion, but this is an adult forum and the threads created should be looked upon as such
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (241 posts) at 08:26 AM

Oh my goodness what has happened now? I will be completely honest with you, I have had more fun with Mel, gymbeamin, amkazen,Raygeo, etc. I get a kick out of reading their post and yes I have joined in a couple of times. If you do not agree with a post, or poster, ignore them. I think there is a button on here for that.
I have not looked at it as being bad, I just saw it as adults having fun with each other. Yes, there was a post on here the other day about topless photos, and I made a comment. It was a joke. I would never send a topless photo of myself to anyone. It does not hurt to joke around. In my opinion, that's one of the things that is wrong with the world today everything must be serious. People can not joke around anymore. Males can't be friends with females or vice versa, because people think your having an affair. I'm just getting to the point where I don't care what people think about me, as long as I can look in the mirror and know that I'm living my life the way I should that's all that should matter.
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (241 posts) at 08:56 AM

Since I opened this can of worms, I feel like I have to comment on this.
Firstly, your post is very well thought out and well written. I appreciate the time and thought that you put into it.
In my opinion, first and foremost, this is a fitness forum. Anyone should be able to come in here to give or receive support. I was thinking the other night about the thread where it appeared that you all were trying to hook up with each other. How do you think that read to a first time user to the site? What conversation do you think would have ensued if a husband had come on here just to see what his wife's BFL was all about? I just don't believe that those kinds of topics belong in this forum. A lot of people use blogs, yahoo, aol etc to talk about the other stuff that entertains us. It's our own space and we can put whatever we want into it. This forum is like being out in public.
Everyone has different tolerances to what they view as crossing the line. For some it's foul language, for others it's using %^%*^$ in place of foul language, and for others it's using the Lord's name in vain. I think we all need to be a bit more sensitive to how other people feel. (I apologize if my use of the F word in my "crossing the line" post offended anyone. I have had time to cool down and think about things)
The standard reply seems to be, if you don't like what you are reading, then click it closed or put the person on ignore. Usually by the time I have realized I don't like what I am reading, I've already read too far and I'm irritated. As for putting people on ignore...I don't think I should have to do that. Agent 69 is an experienced BFL'er and has some great words and advice to offer. I don't want to miss out on that by putting her on ignore.
When it comes to PM's I believe they should be PRIVATE regardless of what they say. If there is something harrassing or bad in the PM, it should be taken to the Webmaster for him to deal with in private.
I read through the Code of Conduct for Tracker and a few things popped out at me.
"RULES OF CONDUCT
These forums are for discussing fitness and information associated with fitness.
Personal attacks are prohibited. This specifically means any text/post that is blatantly attacking another person on or off the forum, especially in a personal way. (I acknowledge that I broke this one in my "crossing the line" post. I should have handled it better but my red hair prevailed. I apologize for handling it the way I did)
Trolling is prohibited. Trolling is whenever someone is clearly, deliberately posting in a manner for the purpose of angering and/or insulting the other participants of the board. Trolling DOES NOT encourage further discussion in the long run, it only encourages personal attacks (if left unchecked).
Private Messages received on these Forums are to be considered private and are not to be posted publicly unless the sender of the private message agrees.
Posting of pornography, racist or otherwise discriminating remarks, threats to cause physical or mental harm, extreme offensive language, material that breaks any law or otherwise totally unacceptable posts or links to pages that contain the aforementioned material may result in an immediate ban from the Forums.
Off Topic (OT) are not prohibited, but should be posted within reason. There are some topics that are not appropriate for the forums."
Since this forum doesn't have moderators, I guess we have to sort through and interpret ourselves just what the Webmaster had in mind when he wrote the Code of Conduct.
Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (163 posts) at 10:22 AM
That's an interesting point, Agent 69. Human nature essentially invalidates it though. People tend to seek out their own kind, because they find unappealing the different folks. That's because most people don't really like those who are different than they are. And,half of the time in this world is spent by folks trying to convince others to do life just like they do, or to go away and leave them alone if they don't. Rodney King, the coke head derelict from L.A., probably said one thing in his life that made any sense, "Can't we all just get along?" Unfortunately, as some these threads bear out, the answer seems to be, "No, we can't!" God bless, everyone, and have a Merry Christmas--it's the most beautiful time of the year!
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (241 posts) at 10:41 AM
Moggie, first let me say "I understand", I'm Irish (by birth and by nature) so I know what it feels like to loose all rational and say exactly what your thinking at a given moment.
The person who posted the PM to this board earlier in the week had that same feeling of "lost control" ...... she felt that the person had attacked her in public on the board and then turned around and sent her an "oh, so sorry" PM
and the posting came from total frustration.........everyone here needs to understand that.
OT threads are exactly that ; Off Topic and they should be opened at your own accord, and if you read something you find to be offensive, being an off topic thread should have been enough of a "warning" to you, along with whatever the Subject was.
I feel that we could all handle given situations in a better manner; what's done is done, you can't go back.
However, if I CHOSE (and chose is the operative word here) to post something another MAY find offensive I may as well stop posting right here and right now........this is not a forum where we should have to define each word, each meaning, each conotation to every post we make.
Next........
Body for Life Forum Message by crone (330 posts) at 10:51 AM
I see it this way, no two people are going to have exactly the same opinion about anything and everyone needs to respect each others opinions. That's how people learn. Everyone has to be willing to have an open mind and you just might be able to learn. You CAN learn others mistakes not just your own mistakes.
Body for Life Forum Message by Moggie (578 posts) at 11:01 AM
I don't use the boards by going through the various forums. I open it up on the page that shows the most recent threads that have been replied to. No one puts OT in their thread titles. But that is beside the point. We could go round and round on what is considered to be an appropriate topic for this board and will most likely never come to an agreement because we are different people with different backgrounds and experiences.
I can't believe that other forums that have moderators have topics like some of the ones that I have seen on here. I stand by my belief that some topics just don't belong on these boards.
It's a FITNESS forum. There are loads of other places that people can go to to tackle the more risque topics in life.

Well I think overall it's good that we are all using this thread as a sounding board for cooler heads and an open discussion. I think what most people need to realize is that it's not free speech, having a good time or a lifestyle that most of us are concerned about, it's more about what is appropriate to post on the tracker and the spirit of why the site was created. Yes it is an adult site, but I believe that once we create off topic posts that flood a site with topics away from what it's intended for we lost sight of the original intent. It's like getting on a bible study forum and flooding it with messages about sex, drugs and rock and roll. Yes it may be in an off topic forum and yes people do have the option to look at something else, but the point is that it really does start to change the look and feel of the board.
I have spoken to a few of the self removed members in the past and the number one thing that drove them from this site was the fact that they felt that the off topic posts were getting all of the attention and when they asked for support none was to be found. They found the site to be of no value as they weren't getting the support they needed. Now in fairness maybe they had posted a support topic that had been beaten to death in pasts threads, or maybe there were too many support topics that day and they were lost in the mix. Many things could also have contributed to their being ignored. However, it was clear that they felt that those sex flavored OT threads always being the top 2-3 threads in the new messages screen or the homepage certainly weren't helping things.
People are mentioning that it's your choice as to whether or not you should read those topics and threads and yes you're absolutely right. However, we don't have a choice when they keep showing up in the new messages or the home page whenever we log on. I think that's a point we all need to take to heart. And I don't think this site is an Adult site in the manner that it's being bandied about with. Health and fitness is a family concern for all ages. I want this site to be something that anyone can look at it over my shoulder at work, home or around family and friends and not feel like I need to cover their eyes. I have a blog, personal email and Instant Messenger for stuff that is off topic and might offend a large audience. You make your own choices with your topics but please understand that when you're posting to a large audience on a fitness related forum that your choices should be more appropriate to the topic or you wind up with flare ups like the ones we've been having in the past.
Now all of that being said I will say that everyone that is on this thread I have seen showing support in the other parts of the tracker and I think that's awesome. I've received supporting advice from many of you before and although in many cases we may agree to disagree in a lot of areas concerning religion, politics and sex we all understand that we are here for BFL or getting our bodies back into the best shape they can be. Additionally if any of you feel the need to PM me with anything my door is always open.

I have to throw in my two cents, in regards to amodellawyer and others "hooking up". It has been stated that they were not really serious. But I don't think how serious they were is really the issue here. I mean, it's none of my business if they want to meet and do whatever behind closed doors or send private messages, just don't do it in front of me or my friends. I think that is only fair. The whole issue I had was that everytime I was logging on to the home page, where it lists the most recent posts, there was always a title that was sex related. I was just as offended by the titles as I was with the content and not for my own sake but for others that I refer to this site.
This is supposed to be a site for health and fitness. If I wanted to discuss sex all the time, then I would go to a site catered to just that. If I want mainly fitness, I would like to think that this would be a safe place to visit. And I don't think this site caters to only adults. I bet it would be safe to say that this site is also a place where teenagers frequent. Havlow said it quite well, and I concur, this is a place for family, not just adults.
So that's my opinion anyway. I just had to vent and I really hope this issue really does die soon.

Thank you Havlow and Iceskater. I appreciate your comments and agree.
In addition to what you both so succinctly said, I log on from work at times, and it is just not cool to view/ read posts like that.
I just think it would be a good rule of thumb for THIS site, to think - would I want my child looking at this? My company?
Body for Life Forum Message by iceskater (273 posts) at 09:55 PM
Exactly Jennifer - I was wanting to show this site to my teenage daughter but then I had second thoughts. Maybe I still will if everyone does me a favor and promises to "be good". LOL :)

The house was in Ohio, He took it down after there was an accident infront of his house due to traffic and distractions.. I still think its a cool display, there is also a video of the same house played to Barbra Striesands (sp) Jingle bells song. I like the TSO song better. There's an article about it online.
Body for Life Forum Message by tinkerbell (308 posts) at 07:13 AM
We live about 10 minutes from this house. My son (he's 11) was bugging us to check it out but we couldn't get there before he stopped playing it. There was an accident from all the traffic and the police could'nt get in to take a report. The house is on a cul-de-sac and it's hard to get in and out. At least there is a video so everyone can enjoy it. I heard he may turn it on again, but not tell anyone, maybe we'll sneak up there this weekend.

"Let's Roll"
by Lisa Beamer
I bought it off e-bay for 5.00
but it's well worth the cover price
it's a very inspirational read

Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (241 posts) at 09:27 AM
OMG.......9/11 the plan that went down in Penn., the group of men and woman that tried to take the plan back from the terrorists......you had to have heard about all of that.
Anyway, Lisa Beamer is the wife of Scott Beamer....one of the men on the plan that headed the attempted take over of the terrorist.
The didn't re-gain control of the plane, it crashed in a field in Penn., but the plane had been on a direct corse for Washington DC.....everyone on the plane perished.
as I said, very inspirational book, everyone should read it.
Body for Life Forum Message by Kerry (926 posts) at 10:13 AM
Haven't read it, but probably would if I had the opportunity. I can't imagine the choice those folks were faced with, and the decision they made.
I beleive they were among the true heros of that day.
Kerry
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (241 posts) at 10:46 AM
from what I have read (I have about 60 pages left), they KNEW the plan was headed for Washington, they knew about the Twin Towers....they knew what the terrorist were planning, and they were determined to take the plane back over
they didn't know the plane would crash....from what I have read these men and women were all spiritual people and they knew what had to be done under the circumstance they were in
so they did what neede to be done
It's truly a very moving story and Lisa Beamer is one of the strongest women I have ever read about.

Er. Okay.
I really don't get the whole panty twistage thing some people get themselves into when their buds seemingly take a break or find another place to go. Is there something I'm missing here?
I've been a member of numerous boards and have seen people come and go, sometimes good friends get fed up and either take a break or take up residence elsewhere. Or they're just busy with other things and haven't felt the need to inform the board of it. But I have never, for the life of me, felt an impetus to create thread to guilt-trip anyone re: 'making' my friends leave.
I just don't get it.

I was reading Phoenix's Africa vs USA, which I thought was very Interesting, when I started thinking about the Stereotypes of what people think about where I live.
So I thought I would start a new thread and let people dispell some of the myths and stereotype of their State, City, or Country.
I am from Indianapolis Indiana and yes there is more than CORN in Indiana.
One of the first things I hear from people that are visiting Indy for the first time is how clean the City is.
Indiana is home to
1. The 13 -0 Indpls Colts
2. The Indiana Pacers minus Ron Artest
3. The Biggest 1 day Sporting event in the World the Indy 500 and The Brickyard 400.
4. Purdue University, Indiana University, and Notre Dame University just to name a few.
Unfortunately we do not have any oceans or mountains, but the cost of living is very good. So we can save our money and go on vacation to the occeans and mountains.
We have 4 seasons, WINTER temps usually -5 to +30 deg farenheit with lots of snow. SPRING temps +40 to +70 lots of rain lots of greenery and trees. SUMMER temps +70 to +90 and FALL with same tems as spring and beautiful fall scenery thruought the State.
One of the Things I like about Indiana is you can hop in your car and in 3 to 4 hours you can vist Chicago, Detroit, St Louis, Louiville, Cincinnati, Lake Michigan and an assortment of riverboat casinos.
Tell us about where you live and dispell some of the myths and stereotypes about your home.

Ocean
Mountains
Ski resorts
Lots of lakes and parks
New York City!!!
Philadelphia
Greenwich, CT
Atlantic City
So much I can't even list them all! The most exciting thing lately is the movie industry has discovered NJ. They film the Soprano's practically in my backyard and I have met James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano) several times. It is just so cool to see these people on the same streets as you!
Temps range from about 0 deg. at the coldest to 100 deg. at the hottest. It has been up to 105 at times.
One more thing, I don't really know anyone who actually speaks like they do on the Soprano's! We have those people, but I don't know them. :)

The British don't always eat fish and chips on Fridays but I think most of us do a Sunday roast (well, I've gotten into the habit). I drink a lot of tea. I don't have a horse. The British aren't all that polite--in fact I think Americans are far more polite than the British--especially in the shops! You won't believe how poor the service can be!! What else about the British?? I've been here for so long (I was born near Detroit) that I can't remember the stereotype anymore. Oh yeah, we only have 5 tv stations unless you get sky or something. And we have to pay for a television license!

I'm from Oklahoma. You know, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plains.
Some facts:
1. The parking meter, the aerosol can, and the shopping cart were all invented in OK.
2. We have the only state capitol in the world with an oil well under it (the Petunia #1, so named because it was drilled in a flower bed).
3. More American Indian tribes are headquartered in our state than any other.
4. The first American Boy Scout troop was started in OK.
5. Mickey Mantle, Garth Brooks, Will Rogers, Gene Autry, Tony Hillerman, Johnny Bench, and Geronimo are all from OK.
I think most people have really *no* thoughts about Oklahoma--we're something of a forgotten place. It's really a fantastic place to live--moderate temperatures, wide open spaces, hills, rivers, an incredible diversity of people, and a fascinating history. It's a simple place to live, not very cosmopolitan in very many ways, but it's a place that feels like home.

I live in Greensboro, NC and no, I didn't marry my cousin or my brother. I think that reference goes for all southern states. We have the beautiful beaches and outer banks along with sprawling mountains to the west. And yes, I will admit that I do have a southern accent - born and bred in NC so it's natural.
We all don't eat fried chicken and collard greens every week - some of us have adopted the BFL way of life. Oh, and we are "edumacated" :) UNC Chapel Hill, Duke University... just because we speak slow doesn't mean we are inefficient and ignorant.
And yes, most of us have southern manners. I just got back from Europe and I did miss the service we get at restaurants along with the occasional "excuse me" and "thank you"! Not to say the south is the only place with manners but growing up, if I didn't say "yes m'am" - I felt it.

People are not really "Minnesota Nice". At least not on the roads!! On the freeways not a single person can figure out how to merge.
No, I'm not proud of the Vikings. But then I never was.

I'm from Nova Scotia but live in New Brunsick canada. I'll comment on Nova Scotia first. The telephone was invented by alexander graham bell (Cape Breton) and the first trans-atlantic radio message was made by Marconi in 1902 from Cape Breton. The Halifax explosion on Dec. 6 1917 between two ammo ships in the harbour was the largest man-made explosion in history up until Hiroshima in 1945. The renowned pumpkin boat race occurs here every year.. where you get a really big pumpkin, hollow it out, get inside and race down a river. Shores the Bay of Fundy with the largest tides in the world. Halifax harbour is the largest natural harbour in the world.
Had the first European settlement north of Fla. and is home of the Bluenose Schooner. That is just a few things i recall.
No we don't live in igloos or snow, or anything like that. we don't say EH every two seconds.. well not like we are made out to say it.. we are a lot like americans in some ways, and getting more and more like it as time goes on. Our national sport is not hockey, it is lacrosse, but we still kick butt at hockey too ;). We get temps as low as -40C but mainly -20C and highs of 35C in summer, but normally 30C. We pride ourselves on our hospitality, scenic veiws, and good ol' coastal eating!

Live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (actually a suburb of Toronto).
We do not live in Igloos
I've never seen a penguin
I went ice fishing not for food but for the "fun" of it
People hunt for sport not because we don't have "game" in the grocery store
Moose, deer & bears do not roam our city streets
Most of us are embarassed of Bob & Doug Mackenzie
Yes our politicians are idiots for the most part
We do drive & have massive grossly congested highways
If you look around @ the houses & cars here it is very obvious that "a lot of money lives here"
We all do say "eh" not because we're uneducated but because "huh" sounds like a dunce (LOL)
Toronto is not the capitol of Canada
Ontario is not a city in Canada
Ottawa is not a province
Those last few were kind of sarcastic - its just that I've been asked those questions before ROFLMAO.
Yes, it is true we cannot make an Oscar worthy movie if our life depended on it.

Then I moved to New Bern NC. Wow different world that was from Mich. NC is beautiful and the climate is great. I was thrown off when a girl looked at me and my sister and said. "Ya'll favor". I had no idea what she meant (though I do know lol)
Then to Santa Fe NM for about 10 years. Yeah the food is good and hot! Would you like red or green chili with that? Oh and not just any pepper will do, it must be a hatch green chili ;) The houses are all adobe, and yes most people put ristras by thier front doors.
Now we are in Naples FL. The summer is hot, and muggy. The snow birds really are a pain in the butt. But it is just beautiful here. Oh and you can tell who the locals are in the winter. They are the ones wearing long sleeved shirts when its 75 degrees out ;)

Contrary to popular belief, Oklahoma actually has some areas with very beautiful hills, lakes and streams. Its red dirt is actually quite striking, and the people there are very friendly. The best thing about Oklahoma for me as a kid growing up in Kansas was that Oklahoma sold beer on Sunday, and Kansas didn't, so I on occasion had to drive to Oklahoma just to avoid the trauma of totally sobering up one day of the week! Now, after living for about 40 years in Kansas, I live in central Michigan. Here are the things about Michigan some of you might not know.
1. Most people use the palm of their hand to show you where they live. I live in the middle of the palm, in the lifeline across from the crease where the thumb meets the palm.
2. From Detroit Michigan you go south to get into Canada.
3. It's closer to Washington D.C. from Detroit than it is from Detroit to Houghton Michigan.
4. Out of the nearly 10 million people who live here, over half live in the 3 counties that make up the metro Detroit area.
5. People talk, act and drive like easterners here, so don't let that "we're part of the midwest" stuff fool you! They'll run right over you on the road if you're going less than 80!
Michigan has some of the best and absolute worst professional sports in the country. The Pistons and Red Wings are contenders every year these days. Then there are tigermuscle's beloved tigers, who haven't had a winning season since God knows when. What makes the Tigers look pretty good is the Lions' record.

I live in the heart of the OC, Orange County, California.
We don't all surf (but most of us do enjoy the water).
We don't all know the 47 definitions of the word "dude."
I've never even seen the show "O.C." so don't ask me if it's real.
Most of us don't really care if the Angels baseball team is called Anaheim, Los Angeles, or California. As long as we win our 2nd World Series soon!
Traffic? Ya'll don't know traffic.
Good stuff: within a couple hours, we can be in the mountains, the desert, the beach. In fact, there have been days when we play in the snow in the morning and swim in the ocean in the afternoon.

Loved Flowers take, especially: We all do say "eh" not because we're uneducated but because "huh" sounds like a dunce (LOL).
I live in a Suburb of Vancouver called Richmond. Often called Ditchmond because we are on a delta at the end of a River. (But living in Richmond means never having to be Surrey. i.e. sorry).
We are surrounded by dykes (come on, I'm not being mean!) - that keep the water out because we are techically 6 ft below sea level.
Vancouver has the second largest (if not the first) community of Chinese to San Fransisco. The Hong Kong Chinese immagrants like it here because it reminds them so much of their homeland; surrounded by water and mountains. And this is considered good luck.
Believe it or not, Seattle has colder more extreme weather than we do and they are 2.5 hrs to the south of us. Remember the Ice Storms - didn't touch us at all. People DO wear shorts all year long. And sandals and summer clothes much to my chagrin. Stacy and Clinton help me here!
Vancouver probably has the largest homeless population because they all come on Greyhound from Calagary and east because of the mild temperatures in winter. (That's why they call it Lotus land too) I've heard that other provinces have PAID to put people on buses to ship their welfare people out here...dunno how true.
Steve Nash, and Pamela Anderson are from BC - Vancouver Island.
Ryan Stiles from Drew Carey show is from Richmond.
IMO Canadians are close to having a certain apathy for politics. We certainly don't get passionate in the same way as Americans but we do get fired up about scandal! (especially when its STOOOPID.)

well I was born and raised in the 9th ward of New Orleans 51 years ago, itwas a nice place to live back them.
I grew up with Mardi Gras at my front door, GREAT southern cooking, The French Quarter, and a place I loved to come home. I moved outside of Picayune , Mississippi 13 years ago because the crime in New Orleans got back. I love Ms. I live on a 30 acrea farm and have 3 hourses, had a cow, 3 pigs, ducks, chickens, dogs and cats, fish, goats, birds , turtles, and even an egunia.
It's different here, I was used to the city, bright lights and traffic, police sirrans and just things always happening, Here in Ms, I had a long time getting used to the accents, slow drawn out, nobody is every in a hurry, .
Everyone I know has horsues and goats, it's just the way of life, dogs are neighbor hood dogs, lol, they come and go and they have 10 different names,
We have auctions on the weekends, that's a biggie thing around here, you can bid and get a antiqye piece of furniture for $20
everydody knows everybody and you can have a neighbor ride up on a horse at 7 am after the school bus takes your kids off to school and hitch it to a tree and drop by for coffee and gosip. People are willing to help, all they ask in return ins a few beers.
it's easy to say, hey, saturday evening drop by for some BBQ and Beer and he gotta redo that house fence and you can bet 10 family will be there.
We have a lot of redneck jokes and no one around here takes offense to them, we laugh about it and say , yea, that looks good. lol
country music is the most perdomanated mucic played her, which is waht I gre up on anyway, I love it.
Kids, all have cars, you see yum driving at 14 , and hang out at friends houses, If you ever heard the tim Macgraw song, we're just county bous and girls getting down on the farm, well that sums it up.
Swimming is a the creek or in someones pond. I love it here, I feel awful about New Orleans, it was my life , so many memories all gone now, thanks to Katrina,
The best thing I love about the country is no street lights, you can see the stars, in the summer we go and lay on the peer and just watch the stars and count the shooting starts nad of course the lighting bugs.

Lived in Phoenix, which was very hot. I loved it and miss it! Lots of scorpions around.
Moved to a horse farm in Northern California, down in the valley. Never seen such thick fog in my life in the winter! You could cut it with a knife! You can't even see the edge of the hood of your car sometimes in that fog. Some people drive slow with the windows down just to hear other cars to avoid collisions.
Now I'm in the Cleveland, Ohio area where we get A LOT of lake effect snow. I LOVE it! Last year we got about 115 inches. Lots of shoveling! I also find fascinating the Amish people that live around here who still drive around in horse and buggy.

Ooh Linda, I can tell we are in a totally different areas of MS. We don't have goats and pigs in our yards. If somebody came by my house and tied there horse to the tree to come in and drink coffee, somebody would probably be bailing me out of jail. Actually I don't know of any people in my area that own farm animals. People in my area are always in a hurry, you'll get run over here if you take time to smell the roses.
Funny how we can be several hours apart, but the lifestyles and the people are so different. I wished we were laid back here like you guys, sounds kind of nice.
I'm close to Raygeo's stomping grounds the closer you get to that area, they don't even know what pigs and goats are.

Hmmmm...not sure what stereotypes exist about Nevada, but I do love it here. I could do without all the "white trash" that seems to inhabit the surrounding area and I don't care for the amount of meth users that are in the outlying areas. But the weather is amazing, the scenery is second to none, and there is a ton of great places all within a day's drive.
Summer here is hot but without all the horrible humidity I endured in Houston. I can escape the heat by taking a 20 minute drive to Lake Tahoe or hopping in the car for 3 hours and I'm in San Francisco. We are a few hours away from Yosemite as well, which is beautiful. Mountain biking rocks here (if you are into mtn biking, try the Tahoe Flume Trail...scare but amazing) and the hiking is incredible. In the winter, I can chose from the 15 or so ski resorts, including Squaw and Heavenly. Snowshoeing is an incredible workout and the trails here are terrific.
Spring and Fall are gorgeous with moderate temperatures and again, no humidity. I love going up to Tahoe and seeing all the Aspens turning colors in the Fall.
What stinks about the area is that the cost of living has become absolutely outrageous. An moderately sized home (1800 sq ft) in a decent neighborhood will run you around $400,000 and this area doesn't pay that much more than anywhere else to make up for the cost of living. I could move back to Houston and buy a freakin' mansion for that price and still get paid around the same amount. But alas, I would have to acclimate to the nasty weather in Houston all over again! We have lots and lots of Southern Californians moving up here....in droves. Sometimes it gets tiring, but hey, they've brought In-n-Out, PF Changs, Pottery Barn, A&F, and a myriad of other great department stores!
It took me a while to get used to the 24 hour drinking thing here. In Houston, you couldn't buy drinks after 2am and in the grocery stores, they stopped selling beer at midnight. If you wanted hard alcohol, you had to go to a liquor store. Here, it's all over the place, available for sale all hours of the day and night. We have a lot of alcoholics (I see many of them in the ICU after they have drank themselves almost to death) and it's a big problem here. I think we are one of the few states left where you can smoke anywhere you want (but the Californians are slowly trying to change that!).
Over all, I love it here. I miss the good food and the friendly people of Houston, but I wouldn't move back there. I'm a big outdoors gal, so this place is perfect for me.

I am so done with all of this...lets look at my life for a sec, I will try to make this short and sweet...but maybe after reading it you will understand why this was the one place I could let go, have fun, relax, play, laugh and smile...now that is gone too..
What am I going to remember about Christmas 2005?
(1) I had to watch my son get put in handcuffs and taken to jail this morning for and undetermined amount of time but no more than 120 while they schedule a court hearing for something that allegedly happened when he was 10! He is going to be 18 in a month!
(2) The "family" investment home I have been living in, landscaping, paying the mortgage on for 3 1/2 years, put my heart and soul into...MY HOME is being ripped out from under my feet by my greedy spiteful MOTHER......leaving me and my children homeless basically. (Mind you I have been on my own since I was 14 and I have NEVER not been able to keep a roof over my childrens head or food in their mouths and I won't be starting now!)
So lets all look at what important here and all your piddely little tit for tat negativity you can keep to yourselves. You don't know me and those who do know I am a good person, the rest of you I could care less what you think of me...I know who I am....so shoot me for trying to escape my reality for a bit....damn

Cyberspace to me is a place to have fun. There are people we may never meet and they are like imaginary friends in a sense, but they can respond to you. We are able to reach out for support in a much larger environment than ever before. When we face our own troubles, a little escape to cyberspace, to an anonymous person, helps sometimes, and takes our mind off of things. That was all that was going on: a little escape from reality and it was all in jest, never serious.
mellie, Jan, Onica, and I are praying for you & your family. I will also tell you this: to see you continue to live BFL while all this stuff is a good reminder to me to suck it up for myself. Thanks for the words of encouragement this week. And, do not forget....I have our house open to all 5 (you, your 2 girls, your bf, and his girl) of you, plus I also have that empty house available. So, consider your immediate housing needs fixed.

Well said amkazen. I didn't express it well. I guess "dang" does convey much.
I was thinking how we really don't know what's going on in people's lives and I am amazed by those who can commit to this type of program under very negative circumstances. In a sense, BFL can help folks get through certain circumstances while in others, folks get through BFL in spite of their circumstances.

I have no idea what's going on (negativity and such) but sorry to hear about your situation and I have to say Amkazen that's unbelievable support you're showing, and my hat's off to you. This board is really a wonderfull support group. I've seen some pretty amazing things since joining this group a year ago. Some of which include searching all over Lousianna to try and find out if GET' ER DONE (linda) was alright, helping personalizeabook (carol) pay for her entrance fee into a physique competition, Helping Julie Whitt and many other verbal support measures. Any how I just wanted to say that for the most part people here are generally good people. We might get our opinions mis-construed (sp?) but everyone (almost) seem like good hearted people. So again I say that I have no idea what negativity or railroading or what ever you might want to call it occured here but I think just ingnore it (there's always a few bad apples in a bunch) and go on with your life and continue looking to this board for support. That's why everyone joined this group. I don't pray very often but I do believe in god and I believe that if we look to him in troubled times he will respond so my thoughts will be with you and your son. Stay Strong

I haven't bought a CD in years - literally. So I broke down & bought the new INXS should anyone care. They were a big part of my young party life and I've always held a "spot" for them.
Its not bad; a bit of it sounds eerily like the INXS we would all know. Some of it even reminds me of the days of "The Swing". Some of it is just "different" to me & I'm undecided. I never buy, we always download but I don't regret buying this if just for nostalgia reasons. Anyone else hear it/like it?
Body for Life Forum Message by Karla (430 posts) at 02:54 PM
I've only heard their newly released song on the radio. I actually really like the song, and the new singer has a great voice. However, I really loved Michael Hutchence, and don't think he can actually be replaced.
Although I like the new song, it also kind of bugs me that this guy just happens to sound just so much like M. Hutchence. I don't know what to make of that.
It's like Queen trying to replace Freddie Mercury (by having a reality show competition, no less), which they've already said they are not going to do, last I heard.
So, I don't know how I feel about it all yet. I was a huge INXS fan in the 80's myself.
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2007 posts) at 03:07 PM
OMG Karla that is so true about Freddie. Can you imagine someone replacing HIM?????? Like George Michael? Didn't he give it a go with a few concerts?
I know there has been many "losses" (lets not forget John Lennon) but for me with this generation Michael Hutchence & Freddie Mercury were the 2 huge losses and I miss them both.
Karla, if you get a chance, listen to the new INXS, my guess is you'll at least like half of it. It does seem like they put it out with Michael.......at least a little bit.

I was not an INXS fan until Rock Star was aired on TV. Both me and my husband liked that show; it was one of the few shows that we watch together.
Anyway, during the show, I did not like JD, but he's kind of growing on me and the song, "Pretty Vegas" is too.
Last I heard, they were trying to get Van Halen to do the show next summer, but I think I heard that they pulled out.

Nancy Jane was literally GLUED to the entire series and even watches taped shows to this day, LOL.
INXS was great during the 80's Tracey ( the party days ):)
JD hails from my neck of the woods, so that makes it more exciting.
Nancy bought the CD from the TV shows, a greatest hits kind of thing at it was EXCELLENT.
Haven't heard the new disc yet, but I think it will be good.

Ha, ha too funny. I hated JD till he sang his "own song". Remember that? Was that Pretty Vegas? Nobody seems to know. Anyway after he did his own "thing" I looked at him a bit differently. My bet was always on Mig.
The girls - were they just there for exposure? Was a girl EVER going to replace Michael?
The first time I saw this show it was in the middle of it. I even posted on tracker as in "what the hell is going on? - is this actually a show scouting for a new lead singer for INXS?????" I couldn't believe it - too funny.
BubbleButt (I have a hard time saying that LOL) - I can't imagine anyone else now either.

I have done just this before to change things up. I would do a whole set and then run for 2 minutes at a pretty fast pace. Then go on to the next body part. This is not something I would do as a regular routine, but something to get you out of the same routine and challenge your body every once in a blue moon.

What do you teach? Are you Health & Phys. Ed? I used to teach and that's what I was. I always wanted it to be called Fitness class. Oh well. But I bet it will be someday soon.

I'm a 2006'er. I'm only on week 7 of my first challenge but I plan to spend the rest of my life living BFL. I don't believe that my most drematic changes will show until C2 or 3, but I am going to do consecutive challenges for the entire year and i'm looking forward to it. So, yes, 2006 is the year for me. Incidently I started this first challenge on my B-day in October 2005.

My goal is to make next year the best year of my life by going after what I want. Attend the Expo(January). Go to Broadcast Journalism school (already paid). Start a tutoring business (March). Publish my grad paper(submit January, told my paper is accepted in May). Choose one church (by end of April). Edit video footage and make a video (by February) and visit senior citizen centres showing the footage and sharing travel stories (forever- bring the places to them!!). Read 10 novels (all year). All misc jobs that need to get done around the house done (by February). Email Oprah every night asking for tickets to her show in the spring. Learn some computer basics. Visit old friends (July and August-travel). Save a certain sum of money. Quality time with my family (not rushed) once a week. Leave work every day by 4:30pm. Meanwhile during all of this I am not missing a single workout unless sick. No dining out. Friendship time is enjoyed during an activity that does not revolve around food. Supplements are taken consistently. Drinking a gallon of water a day. Make a transformation dropping to 18%. Email package to EAS. Become a Champion in 2006. Decide how I can make the greatest impact on society so others are not going through the motions wondering, "is this IT??" Go to New York with the money I saved from tutoring with friends after Christmas to celebrate health and happiness and try to ice skate around Rockerfeller Square thinking I DOD IT!!!

My life long goal is to be the healthiest I can be. This means eating healthy nutrient packed foods for my body and not for my emotions. My short term goal for this challenge is to lose 20lbs of fat (not muscle) and jog 5 miles without stopping. NO PROBLEMO!!! :)
Body for Life Forum Message by Thisisit! AKA BubbleButt (325 posts) at 02:24 PM
Mine are to a) lose 3 lbs by the end of the year (putting me back down to where I was when I stopped bfl at the end of the summer... lol was fine until I really went off the deep end at Halloween and T.Day). Then lose 6 more which would put me at 120... that would be less than when I got married 14 years ago. My weight range is somewhere between 100 (I think) and 125 and the upper end just doesn't look good on me. Am using Fitday.com now (which I didn't before) and am finally pretty sure I can get down to 120...
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (241 posts) at 02:34 PM
original goal for challenge 1: loose 20 lbs. of fat and gain 5 lbs. of muscle
currently at a loss of 15 lbs. of fat and a 6 lb. muscle gain (not too bad).
for challenge 2; nothing set in stone yet.....but thinking in the realm of a 10 lb. fat loss and a 10 lb. muscle gain. Can I do it......we'll see.

Mine are to finish this program in February 2006. To be around 15% BF or less. To be as healthy as I can be. To look 'hot' in a bikini during my summer holidays. To run like the wind. To hit my first triple in the upcoming softball season. To hopefully be blessed to start a family of my own with my husband. To become a full memeber of my professional work organization. To never give up. To never quit. To never cheat! To accomplish all my goals!
Body for Life Forum Message by shkelly (97 posts) at 03:26 PM
Short term goal- eat well 6 days per/wk, NO CHEATING!! Workout 6 days/wk, NO SKIPPING!!
Long term goal- to be 120# and 15%BF by the end of C2.

I would love to get to 135 lbs. with 16-17% bodyfat and comfortably wear a size 6! I would also like (I sound like Im writing my list for Santa) a 6 pack (would also settle for 4) but after 3 kids (one twin pregnancy with babies weighing 6 lbs 8 oz and 6 lbs. 10 oz - over 13 lbs of baby) I don't know if that will ever happen! But I will continue to kick my ass in the gym every day but 1 to see!

Knowing how crappy I will feel later on in the day if I dont make the gym and get my blood pumping. That is my motivation lately. Plus a drop of 19lbs in 9 weeks. New jeans & shirts purchase from a store that does not carry plus sizes. I am finding tons of motivation lately.

Without a written plan and packing my food for the day. I dont eat cleanly. I think I will probably have to plan for the rest of my life. EFL that is a concept! Maybe I can really get it one day, but for now. I cant even see a day when I dont do my nightly/weekly planning sessions.

I agree...you did AWESOME in your challenge!! WAY TO GO! I am kind of the same way. I normally take a week off between challenges, but during that week I don't totally forget about BFL..I CAN'T!! I may not eat 100% clean, but pretty close, and I exercise and try out new things. Now you know what works and doesn't work for you. You have the tools. Great job at realizing what works!! I can't wait to watch your progress through your next challenge. Happy Holidays! Kana

It's amazing how it just takes on a life of it's own. I have been doing BFl style of living for almost a year now and I can't seem to stray longer than 2 weeks. I go oingo boingo and don't enjoy how I feel. I also miss the structure and the planning of my meals. I like knowing where my next meal is coming from and what it is. I also enjoy a regular active schedule. It's amazing it just takes over your life.
As Bill Phillips said: "It's like not knowing how to walk correctly all your life. Then suddenly learning how to walk correctly. Why on earth would you ever go back to walking incorrectly again? Why would you go back to feeling uncomfortable and in pain?"
Not his exact words I tried to remember exactly how he said it. Close enough ;-) Good for you that is so awesome to hear you "get it". Good for you you worked your program and now it's completely worked for you! Way to go!

Happy Holidays everyone!!!

try working in a bank, not only does everyone who works here bring goodies (all the time), during the holiday season the customers bring cakes, cookies, nugget platters from chic-fil-a
it's a good thing I have a Jan 2nd start date set for challenge 2

what Ive learned is that you are responsible for what goes into your mouth. I hope that doesnt sound harsh, but I didnt realize it and blsamed my overeating on everyone and everything but myself. Im not saying Im 100% perfect all the time, but I know that what I do with my nutrition is MY choice.
Body for Life Forum Message by J Parker (50 posts) at 09:10 AM
tigermuscle - That is so right on. I have learned on this challenge, that if I choose to eat junk, that I will not make my goals, that my body will feel sluggish and my new smaller clothes will no longer fit. What do I want more? Do I want to accomplish my goals bad enough to tough it out? and dont get me wrong it is tough. But I am in control of what goes into my mouth. My mouth, my body, my choice.

Body for Life Forum Message by FitnessGal4Life (4 posts) at 10:54 AM
Hi everyone! You're comments are great! I picked myself back up, put the cookies down, and went to the gym. I updated my 2nd week measurements and I'm going to post my actual "before" pictures tonight. Tigermuscle, you're words were not too harsh. Sometimes what we all need is a good kick in the pants to get us moving, get us inspired, and get it done. You are all so right! I've been doing good avoiding all the christmas stuff at work, but was feeling weak yesterday. I find if I eat sugar, I want more. It's a vicious cycle. The best is to just avoid it. I feel better already!

I know what you’re going through! I have the same problem here too. Endless amounts of food (cookies, fudge, etc...) I guess I am not as strong as I thought because I have giving into the cravings a few times this week. Saying that and not being able to work out (because of my back), I am afraid that I'll lose all of my momentum. My back is feeling better today and I am tempted to try my upper body routine but I am afraid of re aggregating my back. My wife thinks I should just restart my program Jan 2 and enjoy the holidays and let my back recoup. What does everyone think? I had just finished week 10.
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (241 posts) at 11:10 AM
Norrrrrrrm; if you decide to just start a new challenge on Jan 2 (I'll be rihgt there with ya); just go into maint. mode.......don't go completely off the program
you'll regret it......maint. mode will allow you to stay in the saem relative area your in right now and just pick up where you left off in Jan.
Good Luvck, whatever you do

You never quite know when you might get a nice little surprise from your body. Yesterday, my boss walked in on me showing Success Stories One to one of my classes. I told him later about my 12 week challenge and how I was just trying to teach my class about being healthy. He said that he noticed that I was losing weight. Well, this morning I was walking out of the bathroom and saw the myotape laying there, so I picked it up and ran it around my belly. At first I thought it hadn't moved, but then I realized I was reading it wrong, and that I had dropped 1 inch since last week, and 2 inches since starting my challenge. I am on week 3. Wooo Hoooo. Man did that make my day.

That is such a great feeling! Keep up the hard work, who knows you may start a trend among the kids at your school. When you get done showing all of the video. You should issue a challenge to the them. If even one of them takes you up on it and becomes healthier, you have done a wonderful thing.
Keep up the good work.

Especially true for women who are doing BFL. Guys often see results much faster than we do.
Ladies, you have got to hang in there the full 12 weeks. Week 8 you should start to see progress, and by week 12...Awesome stuff!
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (241 posts) at 07:56 AM
women as guilty of wanting those results NOW.......I'm guilty of the same.
I just try to remember that I didn't get into poor physical shape over night and I'm not going to get back to great physical shape in that time frame either.
Hang in there people, keep working hard, it'll come!

Good morning all!
If you remember my post yesterday, I was going to actually enter a BB contest. The date for the one I want to do was just announced, so entry forms arent available yet. However, I got a hold of the guy who runs the Michigan NPC and he took my info and will send stuff out when its ready.
I have a ways to go, but I beleive in myself. I can do this!!!
