So discouraged...

For the past couple of months, I have been trying to get back to the program as I have a highschool reunion in October.  In May, I stumbled on some uneven pavement and landed in a way that caused pain in my rotator cuff.  Workers comp doctor visits, x-rays (no breaks) and final release after a month.

3 weeks ago, I started having this aching in my bicep area, sometimes going all the way to my wrist.  From what I am reading, it is bicep tendonitis although I have a dr's appointment this morning.  I realize that people with more issues than this have accomplished great things with workarounds, but I have just let this level me.  I could sure use some advice and a kick in the butt.  Thanks.

Christine

From what you are discribing it's upper body issues right?  Follow doctors orders but keep up with your cardio, even if it's brisk walking.  Also keep your eats clean.  It's through perserverance that one grows.  Hang tough.

Are there some plyometric exercises you could do?  Jump lunges with your hands on hips would be okay for upper body issues, I think.  They could supplement whatever you're able to do now.  Start slow & for just 10-30 sec at a time, rest 10 sec, & repeat for 8 min.

Of course, what you eat is 80% so don't let the fact that you can't do "normal" w/o's keep you from accomplishing your goals.

Speaking of goals, do you have one for after the reunion?

I agree with michelle, but chances are that you can still do more than cardio. You can do a lot of LBWO. Maybe not barbell squats, but probably leg press or hammie curls, calves, etc.

It's a journey, not a joy-ride.

Try tabata squats... They will kick your butt!!  20 seconds of air squatting, followed by 10 seconds of rest.  Repeat 8 times.  You'll be really glad you lived through it until the next day

Just got back from the doctor.  She decided to re-xray as she did not like the way it looked.  Good news is no fracture.  She said that I may have been overcompensating from the original injury which caused this muscle pull and to rest it for at least three weeks, Aleve, etc., if necessary.  I actually feel better knowing that there is no permanent damage and it will improve.  I would have pushed through the pain and done upper body, but wanted to be sure I would not cause more damage.

I am looking up tabata squats right now...look out, butt....you have no idea!!

The goal past my reunion is to continue the lifestyle and get certification to do personal training.  The reunion is just a little added incentive.

Stopped at the grocery store and picked up ingredients for TBG'S stew to up my veggies.  Finally tried adding fresh spinach to my protein shakes ... what a cool way to get that great veggie in!  Can't believe it does not change the flavor at all.  I do realize that clean eating is even more important right now.

I don't recommend pushing through any type of pain other than DOM's so in my humble opinion you did exactly the right thing.  And giving a shout out for support was a great idea too.  Some times we get so bummed about one thing we lose total site of everything else.  It's nice reading about your change in mindset!

It is possible that you have a torn bicep. a regular xray will not show that. I'm in "the biz"

How is that confirmed, Janice?  Will resting it let it heal?  I truly did nothing since the fall and this just came out of the blue.

MRI would be the best bet.

Do you have a knot on your arm or just the pain?

Just the pain and fairly good range of motion with a few exceptions.

Another recent meal of mine is hommade broccoli soup. Basically just broccoli, a potato, onion, 2Tbsn oil and that's about it. Have a lean protein and you will have gotten in a bunch of broccoli.

You should be adding these to the Glamazon's recipe box.  That sounds great.

Glad there is no fracture. I've just accepted that injuries go with the territory and to just keep on trucking. Sounds like you're handling the situation very well.

I so agree with Michelle.  I find myself not going to gym due to an injury knowing I could still go do cardio....  I can still eat clean and still be successful....  It comes down to one thing, HOW BAD DO WE WANT IT......

Wishing you the BEST!
